Re: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest
Downloading the demo right now. Going to take a while, but it's worth it. I'm hearing really good things from a few people already. Has a Zones-like mode, like in Warhawk. I'm looking forward to checking that out.Comment

Re: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest
Finally finished the download and installed it. I was a little tired, so I only played the tutorial.
The game has some promise. I like having the different classes again like in Battlefront. In online play, if a team balanced them out and worked well together, they could be deadly. I wonder if there will be any kind of clan support? I've been too lazy to read into that. The first thing I noticed was how many combo and special attacks there are, for all classes. That's a good way to keep it from turning into a button mashing fest (Dynasty Warriors, anyone?) but it's a bit much at first, and a little overwhelming. You'll find yourself in the middle of combat asking, "Now what were those buttons again?" It's probably not a very big problem once you've practiced some, but for a beginner it's a little annoying.
The graphics weren't really anything to write home about, but I'm fine with that as long as the game play is good. It was pretty cool at the end of the tutorial. Watching all the different units spread across the battlefield performing their different tasks was nice. I'm looking forward to jumping online tomorrow. I'll probably get owned a lot, but I'd rather get that out of the way in the demo than the actual game.Comment

Re: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest
Downloaded, played for twenty minutes, deleted. I was hoping it would be different from the Dynasty Warriors formula, but it felt like the same old thing. I fully admit twenty minutes with a demo is not a fair judge, but aside from the setting I wasn't very excited. I put my time in with the first two Dynasty Warriors, but I guess there is a reason I haven't touched any of the myriad sequels and clones; as great as it feels to finish a session of mowing through armies and changing the face of a battle, the execution of it gets a little tedious.Comment

Re: The Lord of the Rings: Conquest
Haven't played it yet, but I'll probably pass on this one and all the other clones of this type of game ( dynasty/samurai warriors, Kingdom under Fire, etc) for the simple fact that I'm still waiting on a dynamic fighting engine. When I say dynamic fighting engine, I'm referring to body specific hits, shields that can be dented and knocked out of your hands, sword clashes with someone overpowering the other during the lockup duel.
If anyone is familiar with an old game for PS2 called colliseum, thats the kind of fighting engine I'm talking about. Didnt get very good ratings and wasn't really popular, but the fact cant be denied that the fighting engine was spot on and deep. I'm looking for a fighting engine similar to that but on a massive scale, and of course with a little more polish than the aforementioned game. I was expecting it for these next gen systems but it aint happend yet, lol.
The static strike and block animations just annoy the hell out me now. We need real battles and sword fights, struggle ya know.Comment
