...and then what?
So I've been think to myself: game companies work very hard to create a game that looks real. Every now and then there's a new engine that tries to immitate reality. But let's say it's 2018, we have PS5 and every game looks like reality (Just like watching real people on TV). What's next? What else can be achieved graphically? My Specs:

There is no place like Nebraska
Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they're all true blue.
We'll all stick together,
In all kinds of weather,
For Dear old Nebraska U!
Won't change this signature until Nebraska wins the National Championship...posted 8/16/05Comment

Re: ...and then what?
If you've ever seen Futurama, that's how I want video games to be. But if virtual reality isn't how things are going to go then companies will just have to switch up visual styles.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: ...and then what?
I'm sure this discussion was had when the ps2 came out. I remember people saying how stores had madden running for the ps2 and people thought it was a real game. Graphics can always get better. They can't even make humans look like real people in full budget hollywood CGI movies yet. There's always improvements with skin tone, lip movement, and the soul less glass eyes to be made. Then there's physics. GTA 4 has nice physics, but even they are over the top rag dollish in some ways.
I'm interested in what companies can do with games, but in the end, they are still games. As technology gets better and better, and games can have people looking more lifelike, how much time and money will be spent making the game actually good? There's only so much they can do with a game given a budget, data space, and hardware. That's why GTA is limited to islands. We'll never be able to pick up and play a GTA America game where you can walk, drive, fly on a plane, or go anywhere in a full country.Comment

Re: ...and then what?
When you factor in programs like Oblivion's environment creator, it would be quite possible if given enough data storage to make the US. The main problem would be populating it, and the secondary problem is who really wants to drive for 15 hours in a videogame? I get bored driving from one side of the game to another now, let alone even the distance of a real city.Comment

Re: ...and then what?
Never say never...And think about it: who would have thought 15 years ago that games would look like...let's say NBA 2K8? If some1 from 1993 was able to arrive in 2008 he was amazed! U get my point?Last edited by youvalss; 05-17-2008, 03:40 PM.My Specs:

Re: ...and then what?
I agree with this, I said the figure skater in Winter Games on C64 looked real back in 1986. If someone showed me todays graphics back in 1986 and said it was in HD. My first reaction would of been "whats HD?" , but my second reaction would of been, "WOW!"Comment
