It's not game only. The instruments will be coming out in September by themselves.

Yes. You will be able to buy everything separately in September for the 360, with the full bundle to follow in October. I don't mind this too much because I don't want or need a stratocaster.

Yes, all the downloadable songs are compatible with both games. They will continue to be this way in the future even after Rock Band 2 comes out. Harmonix has consistently stated that they look at Rock Band as a music platform and develop it as such. The fact that all of the existing DLC will be compatible is a HUGE selling point. There are supposedly going to be over 500 songs available for the Rock Band platform by the end of the year.

There are also going to be 20 free downloadable songs made available for RB around the time that RB2 comes out. No word yet as to what they are though.

Basically, they've stated that there will be no RB1 or RB2 DLC and that its just DLC for anyone.

So if you weren't going to get RB2, you could still get DLC for RB1.

It's crazy to think that within a month, I'll have over 200 songs (currently 109 + 84 disc + 20 free DLC + whatever DLC I buy in the next month).

Who else will be in the same boat?

'For the past several months, we have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility.

For the most part, this means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other’s software. A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software.

And yes, you guessed it, Rock Band 2’s guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution.

Conversely, Rock Revolution’s drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.

In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones.;'

Still the only thing missing is the ability to play the RB songs on the disc in RBII. THAT would make it perfect.

Then it's perfect because they said that they will be releasing a patch so you can take the RB1 songs, burn them to your hard drive, and play them in RB2 essentially meaning once that happens, you don't need the RB1 disc anymore.

The only question is that they aren't sure if all 58 songs will make it over for licensing issues (issued for RB1, not RB2).

Harmonix has stated that they will be releasing 20 free downloadable content at the release of Rock Band 2.

They've also said it will be from 20 different bands that currently aren't on the Rock Band 2 disc. I believe they will be actual big time bands, not just Bonus bands we saw on the first game.

Before RB1 came out, there was a rumored list that may or may not have been true. But as DLC has come out, it seems like it was certainly correct because quite a bit has been released.

With that said, these were the songs remaining off that list. So it's quite possible we'll see these as the free 20 songs (or partially), or perhaps DLC later in the year.

That's cool. That list above has good stuff on it, so I would be happy with a lot of those.

A 20 song download is going to take forever. I wonder if you'll be able to pick and choose what you want. Or maybe they can "zip" the file.

I wonder if the PS3 version will have more than 84 songs since it's on Blu-Ray.
