Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit: Out Now

Just picked it up and i have to say i'm disappointed in the story mode. I have never returned a game before, this might be the first.

First and foremost, they had a great thing with Budokai 1's story mode. Why couldn't they just recreate that magic on the next gen? The story mode so far is horrible. Its very incoherent. One chapter we'll be playing Goku fighting Radditz, the next chapter we now have Piccolo fighting Radditz and we don't know who Radditz is. The following chapter skipped right to Tien vs the saibeman.

I thought we were going to have cut-scenes ala Budokai 1, you know a true story mode. All this is, is random fights put together. I was already hesitant to pick up the game because of its lack of characters and environments. I thought the story mode would have been great like Budokai 1 and that would of a been a saving grace. But i'm dead wrong.

I'll continue the story mode since i'm only on chapter 6. But it feel really realyl bad. There's no explanation at all for anything. Any new comers to DBZ would be confused as heck. Maybe it'll get better, plus i still have to unlock the characters and try the online mode. If that feels bad as well, i'm trading in this sucker for some store credit.

EDIT: Ok just got to The Freiza saga now, and the game is getting better. I also played one match online, it was sort of laggy, not to bad though. I'll try to finish the game before i make an absolute judgment on it.

I'll admit though, the combat is pretty good. Its deeper than i thought and i thought the Demo was pretty deep combat wise. The sheer amount of things to combo together is pretty cool. If your a good fighter, then this game combat engine is actually a blast to use

I played the demo. Wasn't impressed at all. Budokai 3 wins.

I knew it. All they are trying to do is milk the series dry. Why do some of these developers believe next gen mainly means graphics? I seen a guy vids on youtube playing the story mode I swear I seen the same moves over and over.

I thought the demo was excellent. I can't believe the game is as bad as you say.

I got this the day before MGS4 came out, beat it in about 2 hours game time...then I realized this game has pretty much no replay value.

I don't know, but this may make a quick trip back to EB or a local game store.

Nono, the gameplay is awesome, and the transformations are really good. That and the graphics are the only thing good about this game though.

there are only FIVE stages, so that's absolute crap. The story mode is 2 hours with 0 cutscenes so you have no idea what you're doing, and the amount of characters is very limited for two reasons. 1) it only goes to cell saga 2)they didn't include all of the characters from the sagas, so the game leaves you with kind of an empty feeling about how much better it could of have been - it teases you.

This game shouldn't have been $60.

Excuse my spelling but Budokai 3 was the best one yet in my opinion. You could fly all over the Dragonball Z world. Loads of characters. Gogeta, Vegeto, Gotents are all in it. Omega Shenron, Dabora, Brolly. I think I remember getting a alternate version of Brolly in it. Overall a great game. Lots of replay value. Plus Dragon Rush Moves, Ultimate Attacks. I am a big fan of this game.

About Burst Limit, It is a Overal score of 6.5 to 7 in my book. I like the game but it is probably because I am a Fan Boy. It is one of the first game to capture Friezas Matalic Purple.

Vegeta is what everyone uses on PS3. At least from what i've seen.

The game has good, deep gameplay...but after you beat story, there isn't much to do.

Let me start by saying: I'm a big DBZ fan. I brought a ps1 just for Final Bout, had to also mod for ps1 for it. Brought the the ps2 in 2002 just because of Budokai 1. Here were my ps2 games:Budokai 1-3 and FFX. Just hope that proves my love for dbz.

Regarding Burst Limit, when it was first announced i was delighted. Not only was it a next gen DBZ game, it was also on my preferred console the xbox. When the info started coming out, i got a little disappointing. I knew the fighting engine was good but the fact that it only went up to the Cell saga and and contained 21 characters was a little disheartening.

The lack of online talk was also worrying me. But now i guess i know why they never talked about online. Its so straight forward. I wanted a lobby room ala DOA4 where we could watch other players play while we waited for our turn.

I thought of Naruto Rise of the Ninja immediately when i started playing Burst Limit online. Rise of the Ninja did the same. However with that at least we knew where all their development went. They crafted a great single player experience that last around 20 hours. With Dimps they spent 3 years on a fighting engine thats not even all that great (good but not great).

My biggest grip is the story mode. I loved what they did with Budokai 1. Knowing everything i knew about Burst Limit, i was hoping the Story would be its saving grace. I had no clue all it was were just fights. I was ready to watch the DBZ intro being done with the games graphic engine like they did with Budokai 1. The Z chronicles sucks a**. WTF is wrong with it? All is it is a cut scene before a fight and a cut-scene after a fight. But i will admit certain drama pieces in the Z chronicles were well done. I was really hoping for the story being re-told though. Its like Atari thinks everyone in the world has heard and watched DBZ. There's no explanation at all during a fight. No clue why i was fighting Radditz or how i even got to Namek.

Then they think they can go past it because they gave us Movie 1 and Movie 2. I really wanted to enjoy the story, but i found it to be one of the games weakest point.

The combat engine is the only thing thats good about this game. The characters do feel all different and unique. I do appreciate that, however i don't know why its the only good thing in the game when the entire game cost $60.

The graphic engine is alright. I have a 32inch Insignia televison. The colors at first were too bright and a bit over saturated. But i toned that down. When the camera pans too close to the characters they sort of lack detail, but its no where near the bad facial animations that plagued Naruto Rise of the Ninja.

Now on the the online. The online is just... the live mode. There's nothing special there. A lobby room can only hold 2 players. And there's a bit too much lag in the game which kills the fluidity of the game. Its just sad that there's nothing special on line. I would of loved something like what DOA4 or even what DOA:U did. Allowing us to fight the Survival mode online, tag teams, just being able to have a group of people in the lobby room chatting while fighting. The only online fighting game with a community truly is DOA4 at the moment. In every other game, after a fight, bam the game ends and you go searching for a new one.

I really wanted to love this game, but i'm finding it hard to even like. At least its fun to play with a friend whose in the same room as you.

I hope to God the sequel improves on everything. I would of even liked the board game idea from Budokai 2 or the world mode in 3, i just hate Z chronicles mode.

I hated the Board Game mode. Lol. I do love the world mode in Budokai 3. Unlocking the chars were so easy also in Burst Limit. All you had to do was complete the game. WTF. I remember in Budokai 3 you had to play through multiple time to unlock all the chars and dont forget the abilities. I did like Naruto ROAN but the cases you pointed out about it were spot on.
