Wow...I just came back from lunch and I was suprised to see this many responses...Thanks guys...thats why I love the OS community!

I was looking for a Gears of War demo...but its not there...is there one? (I only have a silver xbox live membership). Although, I do have a free gold 1 month membership card that I just never used yet that microsoft sent me the 2nd time my 360 died.... I don't play online or multiplayer, thats why I was just looking for a single player game to play once my wife and son go to bed.

I am not a fan of shooting aliens or monsters at all, which is why I NEVER got into HALO (back on the old xbox).....however, I really want to try Gears of War....I like the idea of shoot and find cover.


I'll have to check to see if there is a COD 4 demo since that game is being brought up alot.

So I guess there aren't too many guys here looking forward to Bad Company? I find the storyline pretty interesting....the characters are entertaining to me also.
Are the graphics alot better in Gears of War and COD 4 when compared to what you have seen with Bad Company?

Your enemies in Gears are alien.

COD4 for straight action FPS. You could also save a few bucks and get COD2. Almost as good, set in WW2 instead of present day.

I'd say Orange Box. You get Half Life 2, HL2: Episode 1 and HL2: Episode 2. Episodes 1 and 2 take place after HL2. And once you're done with those you have another awesome single player experience in Portal. Should you feel like playing online, Team Fortress 2 is amazing.

The story in the Half Life games are amazing but they are ports from the XBOX versions and feature only mild graphical updates.

I don't think they're ports of the xbox version. For one thing, only HL2 came out on the xbox, so 2 out of the 3 can't be ports. Secondly, to put it on the xbox they bumped down the resolution and textures, something they didn't have to do as much for the 360 version.

I loved this game, but the one thing I have always hated about HL is the loading screens.

I have to get back into the Orange Box, since I beat HL2, Portal, and only put in a few hours into Episode 2. However, after playing a ton of CoD4 and Halo 3, I went back to HL2 and the controls felt very, very odd to me. I didn't like the way they felt. CoD4's ultra responsive and quick controls have spoiled me.

there's a quick fix for that. just pause the game and go into the controls menu. there you can change the X and Y look sensitivity. The defaults are way too low, IMO.

You can't go wrong with Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and Bioshock

The atmosphere, the story, terrific visuals and the most amazing sound I've ever heard in a video game. The gameplay is top-notch. The game will have you on the edge of your seat.

It's straight up greatness.

Get Call of Duty 2. You can get a copy for about 10 bucks used now, and you aren't out 50-60 if you don't like it.

I just watched a video trailer of COD 4 and I was very impressed by the visuals. (like i said, I am a sucker for graphics)......

I think its going to be between COD 4 and Gears of War....and maybe Bad Company (I just can't stop playing that demo).

Is COD 4 a major improvement over COD 2? Is it worth the price difference (strictly as a single player game)?

I think most people would say yes. For singleplayer purposes I am looking for good older games now. Then I can play the new ones later and save quite a bit.

BIOSHOCK....... do NOT just forget about this game.

It has a tremendous story and you will not get a game that takes immerses you into it's story like Bioshock does. Gears and COD are the same ol war, shoot em, etc game. Don't get me wrong, both games are freaking amazing, but Bioshock is a game that is VERY unique and will draw you in from the first moment. It's a story that hasn't been done before and it absolutely will shock, mesmerize, and grip you if you give it the chance.

It all is going to depends on what you really want in a single player experience right now. If you want something different than a FPS war game get Bioshock.
