Rumor: Halo 4 Already in Development?

    Link

At some point you’ll just have to trust us on some of this stuff. We have to protect our sources to keep them from being fragged by their employers or associates.

A very good and anonymous source tells us that Halo 4 is already in full development over at Bungie. I wish to God She/He/It had more details to share but at this point all She/He/It can confirm for sure is that Halo 4 is an official project being developed by
    Bungie, at this very moment.

With more than 20 million copies of Halo 3 sold worldwide, I know it’s a no-brainer that the series would continue somehow. It’s nice to get this sort of reassurance from a source who has never been wrong for us before.

If we get more details, we’ll share them. If She/He/It is wrong… They’ll be quietly disposed of.
    Also

Now our source is really sticking her/his/its neck out.

As we told you earlier, our inside woman/man/thing got hold of some pretty exciting news.

News that Bungie was already hard at work developing what will be Halo 4.

Now we’re told that this will be announced officially at E3.

The prior news was probably like a weatherman predicting a hurricane “sometime somewhere.” This starts the ticking clock for what would end up being a pretty big deal.

    Halo 4. E3.

    Stand by.
    Hmmmmm... interesting

Re: Rumor: Halo 4 Already in Development?

What are they going to do at E3? Play the theme and flash a logo on screen?

A big reason Bungie became independent was so they could do different stuff and I highly doubt their first project as an independent studio is Halo 4. No Way. Actually, Bungie has come flat out and said on their podcast that their next project is totally different from Halo, and anything they have ever created. They have been teasing the past few months about this project in the weekly updates and this symbol has been showing up a lot.

      "Keep it Clean"

      You can read more here.

I believe this rumor of "Halo 4" being shown at E3 is actually the Peter Jackson Halo project, which is said to be titled Halo Chronicles. Bungie is collaborating on it, but most of development is being handled by Wingnut Interactive in New Zealand and it looks like a new Halo team within MGS is being put together to help out. Frankie recently left Bungie for a job at Microsoft, so he could work on the Halo franchise too.

With more than 20 million copies of Halo 3 sold worldwide
Yeah, if you combine all 3 games they have sold a little over that.

I can't say that I am excited at all for a Halo 4. Halo 1 was by far the best of the first three games and, IMO, they got worse and worse as they went on. I'm not sure I've even played more than 100 online matches with Halo 3 and I usually could get that in about 2 weeks of play. Unless there is some drastic changes to the game and I hear that it is at least as good as 2, I won't even think about buying this.

I'd buy it day 1 if this was true.

          I doubt it is, though.

This news comes from sarcasticgamer.com. They're famous for making many false claims.

If Halo 4 was to be shown at E3 it would have leaked everywhere by now. Plus the MS E3 guide has been leaked and no where did it mention Halo 4.

Halo 4 might come, just not E3.

I agree. I played Halo 3 a lot when it first came out, but now it's just boring to me. Halo 4 would have to be amazing for me to get it.

Whenever I play an FPS on my 360, it's always COD4. I never thought this would happen, but I forget Halo's controls sometimes and think to myself, "These are wrong. Why isn't left trigger aim?"

For sure. If they have plans for a Halo 4, they need to step up some of the gameplay elements big time. No aiming down the sight? It feels so... "right" in COD4.

                    Gamespot Rumor Control

                    Next Halo squad-based, Master Chief-free?

Source: A source with first-hand knowledge of Bungie's development.

What we heard: Last year, those skilled enough to complete Halo 3 on legendary difficulty were treated to an extended ending of the game after the credits rolled. For those who don't have a knack for Covenant-slaying, numerous YouTube videos depict how, following the defeat of the Flood, series hero the Master Chief is left adrift in space in the front half of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) ship Forward Until Dawn.

After a brief conversation with the AI Cortana, the genetically enhanced, perpetually armored Chief enters a hypersleep chamber. The cutscene camera switches to an exterior shot, which pulls back to reveal the remnants of the Dawn entering orbit around a mystery planet. As the sun rises on the planet, music swells, and the screen fades to white--and the cut scene abruptly ends.

With that set-up, many assumed that Bungie's next project would feature the Master Chief marooned on a strange planet, struggling for survival--a sort of off-world Far Cry. However, a source with knowledge of the studio's development slate told GameSpot a different story. She or he said sometime this year, Bungie will announce a "darker, grittier" Halo title that doesn't feature the Master Chief at all.

According to the source, the new Halo game will be a spin-off that resembles "a cross between Ghost Recon and Gears of War." It will reportedly tell a "less cartoony" and "more bloody, violent, and grim" tale of a battle between UNSC forces and the pan-racial religious empire known as the Covenant. The game's atmosphere was described as similar to that of the live-action Halo shorts directed by South African filmmaker Neil Blomkamp (pictured), who was to helm the now-stalled big-screen adaptation of the game.

The source says the upcoming Halo game is a tactical shooter that will follow a squad of colonial marines or orbital drop shock troopers engaged in "intense" fighting on the ground. Gameplay details were scant, other than the fact it will reportedly allow gamers to play as an entire squad in co-op mode through the entire campaign. The exact number of co-op players has yet to be finalized, but it could be as high as eight. It is unclear if the new game is the same as the "Halo: Forerunner" project first rumored in 2006.

The official story: Microsoft had not yet responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Based on the strength of the source, this is almost certainly not bogus. And with Bungie's teaser last week, news about the game could arrive as soon as tomorrow's Microsoft press conference at the E3 Media & Business Summit.

                    Also, I did some digging.

Bungie hires Red Storm creative director

Ghost Recon veteran Allen joins Halo developer

Halo 3 developer Bungie has hired former Red Storm Entertainment creative director Christian Allen.

Allen had worked at Red Storm for five years working on multiple titles in Ubisoft's key Ghost Recon franchise.

"I've accepted a design lead position at Bungie, where I'll be working on something a bit different than Ghost Recon. August 10 was my last day as a senior designer/creative director at RSE and Ubisoft," confirmed Allen via his personal blog.

"I am excited about the chance to face new challenges as a designer," he added.
                    Interview with Harold Ryan

                    So, what’s next for Bungie?

It’s not like we’re worried about a bunch of doors are closing, but we’ll have tighter loops with our prototyping. During the development of Halo and Halo 2, we had other, non-Halo IPs in development and we killed those projects both times. Both teams were swallowed whole by the Halo team. With Halo 3, that was the first time we know that we couldn’t let that happen – it’s not an acceptable way out to add 20 people to the project by killing that prototype.

We kept that prototype running throughout the development of Halo 3 and now we have a creative team which feels like they own that.

We also have Halo DLC on the way, and a new IP prototype that we are very excited about. Then we have other Halo games that are cranking along also. So the end result so far has been exactly as it should have been – we’re happy, excited, and doing our best work on a path that lets us grow.

Evidently, it's hip on the internet to hate Halo. Since when is 3 games too much for a series? Halo haters = hilarious

It'd be stupid to pull the plug on what is the most popular game/phenomenon of video gaming this generation. I'm willing to bet that a Bungie led Halo game will be the biggest selling game of whatever year its released. Halo 3 vastly outsold even GTA IV, even with the multiplatform release. Think about that.

In fact, I'm itchin to play some Halo right now. The Halo universe, maybe not in FPS form, has a load of potential.

Yep. Now as far as the current formula, I could definitely see how people could say enough is enough, even though Bungie could probably do a lot more with it, but Halo in general, noway. There's way more awesome stories than what you find in the current Halo games that you could build a game around. I hope the squad-based Halo rumor is true too.
