    E3 was dissapointing to me

    Not that I actually went, but I always love the flood of news and info, pics, previews, vids etc.

    But this year it seemed there wasn't nearly as much. The main websites that I go to; ign, gamespot, and gametrailers all previewed games that they'd already shown detailed previews for - for the most part. And the ones that didn't get much details, were either lacking major press attention, or the devs don't know what details there will be because it's still too early.

    We didn't see the usual big new IP's like most years. There were almost no suprises, and most titles we saw that look good are either oct/nov, or some time in 09.

    I just feel like I barely know anything I didn't already know before the show started - anyone else feel like this?

    There was a lot of repeat crap, ufc - for example, we saw the same thing and learned zero new info. Alan Wake anyone??? this game was pimped before the 360 came out, and I think everyone was expecting something, but we got zero...not even a screen shot. Splinter Cell Conviction??? where was it????

    It doesn't even seem like there are that many games comming out in the next year and a half.

    that being said I'm looking forward to the following;

    left 4 dead
    fallout 3
    Far Cry 2
    Operation Flashpoint 2
    Backbreaker
    fable 2
    gears 2

    awesome games, but that's not a lot of purchases for a year and a half.

    Re: E3 was dissapointing to me

    I think what got me a bit about E3 was that I'm more into sports games, but everything that was shown were SEQUELS...or first-person stuff.

    Fallout 3 (first/third person shooter)
    Gears 2 (shooter)
    Mirrors Edge (first person)
    Fable 2
    Rock Band 2
    Guitar Hero 4 (World Tour)
    Far Cry 2 (first person)
    Resident Evil 5
    Geometry Wars 2

    yeah, you could say the sports games I like are sequels too, I'll give you that. It'd just be nice to see someone break out of the box and make something NEW!! However, if it's going to be something like Wii Music, I'd care not to know.

      Aren't most of those games coming between September and the end of this year? That's a lot to pack in to 3-4 months. Then you got Halo Wars, Banjo3, NBA, NHL. If anything it seems like there are too many games coming out this Fall. That's why they didn't need to talk about the stuff coming in 2009.

        I guess you're right about that, but what's comming in 09/10 - where were the big new announcments? - the final fantasy on xbox thing imo isn't a very big deal.

        it's basically an industry convention, so there should be industry presentations. From what I could tell there were no technology demonstrations, so talks about the direction of gaming. It just seemed like if you are in the industry, this year's e3 would have been something you could easily skip and it wouldn't matter because you wouldn't have missed much.
        I think this was very different this year because of those reasons.

        My biggest point was that if you payed attention to all of the e3 news, you would have learned almost nothing, and you wouldn't have seen very much media that you didn't have access to before the event.

          There's a reason there are so many sequels, the originals were good games that people want more of.

          If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

            my one hope for the future is that they go back to having it in May. by July, a lot of companies have already announced whats coming so it kind of ruins the surprise.

              I feel better for whining now that ign put out a good article that sums it up much better than I can.

              here's a slice;
              "E3 is all about the games, but with approximately one-tenth of the companies represented this year than were at the show in 2006, we're not getting a full slice of what the industry has to offer over the next 12 months, either. The high cost, restricted space, and limited number of invites pretty much excludes the smaller publishers from the show altogether, and while the overall quality of titles was high, even the larger publishers that were there were showing fewer titles than ever. And even then, you could count the number of surprises and never-before-seen titles at the show on one hand. "<!-- start image div -->

                It's a timing issue calendar-wise, and the fact that pre-E3 and company-specific events are larger in number now.
