Re: MAG (PS3)
IGN is really Ripping this game a new one on the Beta.
I still have mixed emotions when it comes to the latest from Zipper Entertainment. I enjoy running and gunning as much as the next guy and taking down a room filled with enemies, but it's a pain to wait 20 seconds to respawn, then run forever to the next objective, and then get sniped by someone camping over on the horizon...MAG seems to be lacking in the fun department – at least at the moment.Of course, this is still a beta; things are probably going to change between now and the game's January 26th release date, but right now, MAG isn't doing it for me. I feel like I spawn, run for a really long time, maybe pop a couple of guys, and then get waxed. Next, I have to wait to respawn and do it all over again.Unless you have the reaction speed of a coked-out racecar driver, MAG is currently a frustrating experience at best. Even with a heavy kit equipped (allegedly offering you protection out the wazoo at the cost of mobility) when you encounter an opponent, one of you will die in the next three seconds. Then the other will die immediately afterwards from their backup. Guaranteed.Playing MAG for a half hour really makes me appreciate Modern Warfare 2. I know this is just a beta, but this has hardly gotten me excited for this upcoming PS3 exclusive. My big concern is that this game is going to be a haven for campers. Since there are so few spawn points, no kill cam and often little idea of where your killer is located, it's going to be really easy for people to find good hiding spots and lay waste to people. And it takes so damn long to run back to the action that it's going to become really disheartening for a lot of gamers to die so quickly and so often. I don't have high hopes for this one.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: MAG (PS3)
"Haven for campers", eh.....
So, an actual tactical shooter? Sweet!
In all seriousness, I do see a TON of snipers in this beta. Maybe some way to limit the number of a certain class per squad would help. Would also force people to build their skills a little more well-rounded if their best class is taken.
BTW, the default M4A1 that the reviewer was probably using pretty much sucks. The first upgraded AR is MUCH better in several respects. Same for the initial sniper rifle - it has such short range that it's more usable as a FAL - type weapon, but it gets much more useful from distance as you unlock the better scopes.
I've played a couple rounds of domination and it is truly a sight to behold once you get above the action and can look out over the ENTIRE battlefield.Comment

Not defending the game - I didn't really care for my time with it either - but those comments just sound like the same typical whiny crap you hear about every online shooter ever released.
"I feel like I spawn, run for a really long time, maybe pop a couple of guys, and then get waxed. Next, I have to wait to respawn and do it all over again."
I mean, really? That's a complaint? Why not just come out and say it: "I'd be much happier with this game if I was way better at it."Comment

Re: MAG (PS3)
I think the problem is they only spent 30 minutes playing the Beta. I felt the same way after 30 minutes. But after two hours my opinion changed.
Kind of funny that Goldstein said it was a "Camper Haven." When comparing it to MW2. That is quite hilarious really. When MW2 awards you with camp packages, I mean care packages.Comment

Re: MAG (PS3)
Sounds like the guys at IGN want a shooter with training wheels. I got frustrated at the start as well but I kept at it and enjoyed it more as I got used to the controls and map layout. Plus the upgrades to your weapons will improve your kill count and the game becomes more fun along the way. I know the game won't win awards for graphics but they are not garbage either and are acceptable and get the job done."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

Re: MAG (PS3)
This is the type of game that needs to be packed with a headset. A lot of players are just running around aimless. I dont see how this game will sell well at $59.99 if there is no headset included and they should have a cheaper version if you have a headset already.
Also i think it would of been better for the developers to have both domination and sabatoge opened up from the start of the beta. The problems im hearing are people dont like the sabatoge mode and delete the beta before getting a chance to even try domination lolComment

Re: MAG (PS3)
Having squad members with headsets will be key to this game. The graphics don't blow me away but they are pretty damned good. The maps are set up nicely and after playing the game for a few hours I really like them. I'm thinking that this game being a more tactical game will keep away the majority of the kids and other undesirables that have infected MW2.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Re: MAG (PS3)
How do u do the training in this game i click on it but there no option to start it? All i can do is scroll with the l1 and r1Kenny: Ok Vic, I'm ready for some girl on girl action.
Vic: No Kenny, that's girl versus girl.
Kenny: What's the difference?
Vic: Well, in one, one girl wins. In the other....
Kenny: Everyone wins?!?!
Captain Tenneal: Get it on!Comment

Re: MAG (PS3)
I believe you can't play a training mission in the beta just has instructions to read. When the game is released it probably will have that option. I think it would have been smart to put a playable tutorial like warhawk has instead of throwing people right into a game where they get overwhelmed and will quit out of frustration."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment
