Skate 2
I decided to look at PS3 IGN for the first time in I don't know how long, but the front page had information on Skate 2, and there's a trailer as well.
I'm about to check it out for the first time myself.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Tags: None -
Re: Skate 2
Well, after watching the trailer for myself, I realized that while this game looks very good, exciting, and promising... I can't help but think it's going for a more "mind-blowing" route than basic, simple stuff. That's what I loved about Skate and how it was different than the Tony Hawk series.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this game is getting to that level of play... but let's not kid ourselves that for them to up the ante, they're going to have to deliver something else very special. Some of these tricks will do that very thing, but IMO it's at a cost that I don't want this franchise to pay.
I just hope it doesn't go too overboard.
Chaos, this one looks visually superior, though not by unimaginable strides. If this is what the PS3 version will look like as well, then it will have taken a major textural upgrade. The framerate is the biggest question at this point.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Skate 2
Looks much better...In the first Skate, you werent allowed to get off the board. Another new feature is the ability to move objects in the enviroment to create your own lines. Hippy flips and no foot grabs are also new, practically doubling the amont of tricks in the new version.Last edited by ezekiel55; 08-04-2008, 05:30 PM.Comment

In regards to framerate, the devs said they have acheived 60 fps.Comment

Re: Skate 2
Again, I don't think it's even close to reaching that unrealistic level that Tony Hawk has become, but there are just some tricks on the trailer that simply wouldn't/couldn't happen in real life (that footplant and jump off the rail or bowl loop transfer thingy, for example). No worries, this one will be an instant buy for me. Skate is taking up enough time on the PS3 as is, especially when I only have two games (GTA IV being the other, and I'm trying to pace myself as much as possible in anticipation for trophies).
But 60 FPS is definitely a big thing for me.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

My skater friends are ridiculously obsessed with Skate...I have no idea how much they want this, but it looks pretty enticing.Comment

), and I've always wanted a game like Skate...
Yeah the first one got a little stale, but just like in real life I'll get an itch to skate and I'll pop it in just to skate for 15 minutes. It definitely satisfy's my skating crave...the best part is it allows the creativity of actual street skating.Comment

Re: Skate 2
The only problem I have with Skate 2 is that I'm not sure whether they can improve the game enough to be worth 60 bucks. Skate is as close to a perfect game as I think I've played, it was innovative, fun, well designed, just a great game. Sure, there were some minor issues with it, not being able to walk, missing hand grabs and a few other tricks, but on the whole, it's one of the best games I've ever played, and I have so few complaints with it that I'm not sure if fixing those complaints warrants an entirely new game. It goes against every EA philosophy, they should have known to include a few major bugs and include a few flaws in their design so that I'd spend less time loving the original and more time looking forward to the next chance to drop more money.Comment

Skate was a pretty complete game from the mechanics to the career mode to being able to upload footage (this better still be in there), but with the ability to walk this time, it should make the game even better and more realistic.

Re: Skate 2
yeah Skate really had pretty much everything. I'll get the new one just because of the new tricks and walking that they've added, but I hope there is something else big they've yet to announce. I was hoping they would add a feature that allowed you to pick up objects and move them around to incorporate in your tricks. Like move trash bins, stuff like that.

By the way, the trailer showed him pushing a bench table up a slope, so I suppose you can do that, which would be really cool! I think I'm still digging the 60 FPS the most, though... plus the new environments. I still hope they kept some parts simple, though.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
