    Re: Batman: Arkham Asylum

    IGN gives batman a 9.3

Batman: Arkham Asylum is the greatest comic book videogame of all time. This is an adult Dark Knight story that is well-told, packs some truly fun gameplay elements, has topnotch voice talent, and feel like it's part of Batman cannon. If I have to nitpick, I wish the cutscenes looked better as they can distract from the tale and that the AI was a bit more responsive, but those are tiny flaws that shouldn't distract from the big picture.

Rocksteady nailed what Batman is supposed to feel like. Fans, rejoice.

          Eurogamer Review - 9

The appropriately named Rocksteady has delivered a solid, immersive blockbuster title. It's well paced, boasts a well-judged variety of gameplay elements and is brought to life with excellent visuals, a compelling story and superb voice acting. Even if you were controlling a generic ninja rather than an iconic superhero, this would be a polished and engrossing game.

Add the Batman to that recipe and you've got something remarkable; a game that doesn't just use its famous character to make up for rote design, but one that takes a rich and detailed fictional universe and uses it to enhance an already enticing prospect. The great thing about Arkham Asylum isn't that it's a Batman game, it's that it only makes sense as a Batman game. Every plot detail, every gadget, every action set-piece ties the game back into the world of DC Comics in a way that feels utterly organic.
Rarely does a game do a character justice in such a satisfying way. Arkham Asylum finds room for every major aspect of Batman's enduring appeal, and it does so in a game compelling enough to work even without its masked star. Fans of the caped crusader really shouldn't hesitate - this isn't just the best grown-up Batman game, it's the best superhero game, bar none.
          1UP Review - A-

Batman: Arkham Asylum is a Batman: The Animated Series movie where you yourself are in control of Batman and his sheer awesomeness, and that ultimately makes it the best Batman game to date.
          CVG Review - 9.2

Arkham Asylum is not your typical licensed game. For one, it's bloody brilliant. London-based developer Rocksteady Studios - who's CV shows the relatively unknown PS2 action game, Urban Chaos - has caught us totally by surprise with an expertly crafted, supremely polished single-player game that really is up there with the best.
          OXM UK Review - 9.0

Batman: Arkham Asylum is a game that rarely falters. The mix of activities and puzzles ensures that you're rarely doing the same thing for too long, and the area design means that backtracking is either kept to a minimum or shaken up somehow.

I am only 8% through and I can honestly say that this is one of the best single player games that I have played in many years. At first I didnt think that I would like the freeflow fighting, but after playing it for a while I am loving it.

I read it's only $30 at Toys 'r Us in the US on tuesday. The website doesn't say that and there was no link so grain of salt but if you're around there you might want to ask.

                    Joystiq Review

Hyperbole can be venomous to a review's credibility. Any insightful merit which a video game critique may possess seemingly goes out the window as soon as the reviewer starts dropping bombs like "best game ever" or "literally mindblowing" or "it will birth you anew in its magnificence." Perhaps it is because we've all heard these phrases -- save for that last one -- so many times that they've lost their currency with us.

Rest assured, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that Batman: Arkham Asylum is unquestionably the best licensed game I've ever played. At the end of the day, however, that's a fairly low hurdle to clear -- it better reflects the game's quality to say it's one of the best stealth-action games ever made, and easily the best video game 2009 has had to offer thus far.
                    TeamXbox Review - 9.1

When the game arrived, I slumped down in my chair, prepared for yet another dose of disappointing “Superhero Suckage ™,” but Batman: Arkham Asylum sat me upright and kept me engaged. Despite the minor flaws I feel it has, it’s definitely one of this summer’s shiny spots and a recommended purchase to carry you into the pre-holiday game-release frenzy. And there’s not a Robin in sight…
