Can video games stress you out?

In the past few months I've only picked up NCAA and Madden and Head Coach. 3 football games that I enjoy playing. In fact I have a hard time finding time for all of them as I work full time, am married, and have a son.

Now I look at the games that I want that are just on the horizon. A quick check and I see:

    September 9, 2008 NHL 09
    September 14, 2008 Rock Band 2
September 23, 2008 Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
September 23, 2008 LEGO Batman: The Videogame
    October 7, 2008 NBA 2K9
    October 21, 2008 Fable II
    October 28, 2008 Fallout 3
    November 4, 2008 Tom Clancy's EndWar
    November 7, 2008 Gears of War 2

There is NO way I can find time to play all of these games. There are other quality titles that I'm sure others will be getting as well (Force Unleashed, etc.) I thought that this was supposed to be a slow fall season for games? On top of this football season is here so that's even more less free time to game.

Ever feel stressed by release dates?

It almost feels like you gotta hurry up and finish a game to get to the next one.

Not stressed, but I know what you mean. Too many good games coming out right now.

As it stands now, I have 4 games I really play the most.

    1. NCAA
    2. NFL HC
    3. Mercs 2
    4. Rock Band

And I just don't have the time to play them all, nevertheless the good ones on the horizon. . I need to quit my job so I can play more games.

I have to say though I am pumped for RB2.

I really do know what you mean. Having too many games stresses me out... as does deciding which system to get games for... Seriously drives me bonkers.

      I have a rule now:

Every multiplatform game for PS3, exclusives for 360... And I avoid the PS3 vs 360 threads that confuse me and make me second guess myself... Haha.

      I am such a dork

What I've been doing is waiting on most singleplayer games till they're cheaper and I have time. Save my $60 buys for my must have online games, like NBA 2K9 and Gears of War 2.

I want Fable and Fallout, but I know I couldn't play them both at the same time. I'll pick one and then get the other next year.

Me too! I can't describe it as stress so much as confusing anxiousness. I have so much going on it my life: a full time job I love, a wife(which includes 60 hours of begging for sex 60 seconds of actually having sex), two kids that are growing up way too quickly, fantasy baseball and football, coaching and organizing our communities' youth flag football and basketball programs, reading, golf, fishing, tv, computers, video games, cycling..., I want to do it all.

I don't have the answers, but I am trying to stick to one game per season. I haven't gotten a football game yet, HC is on the way, but I have spent since April on only The Show.

I wish Gamefly wasn't as expensive as it is. 20 some bucks per month is too much imo.

            Depends on point of View.

I look at it like this, there are a bunch of games coming out that I want to play/own. Spendimg $20 a month for gamefly saves me atleast, Atleast $100 a month. Instead of buying whatever game I gamefly it either get it right away, or in not too distant future. That way I get to play all games I want to, not worry about when Its due back, and save some money all at the same time. Now this view varies depending on how many games you could would want to buy. But in my own personal interest its a great investment.

The only stress i receive from the games is playing them online. I hate losing so my blood pressure goes thru the roof when i lose.

Having a ton of games to play on the other hand, or having a ton of awesome games looming on the horizon actually relieves my stress.

Hence "IMO." I agree with your reasoning, my experience with Gamefly was to wait for games in which I was interested. I spent too much time waiting instead of playing.

                  Video game release dates? No.

Problems with a video game? Absolutely. EA's football games have had this effect for a few years now. That's pretty much why I try and avoid them.

                  Never works though.

Understandable...I'm gonna give Gamefly another shot after a couple years and see if it'll help me avoid the rush of games. I'm not going to be buying as many this fall, so I'll try them out through this (I hope)...

                      Not really, no.

I buy a game when I want it, and I play it when I can. I certainly don't stress over when I'm going to get time to play it. It's just a video game, I've got more important things in life to worry about.

And I don't mean that in an insulting way, I simply mean it in a "I don't see the point in getting stressed over something so inconsequential and insignificant" sort of way.

Yep. I see so many games that I want to play but then realize I can't because I'm not 14 anymore. It's tough when you've got a job, wife, kids (not yet) and a home (we just moved) to take care of.

That's why when I find a game I like, I stick with it for a few years and don't worry about buying the newest version. I'm still playing NHL 2k7 b/c I've only played like 3 seasons in it and am not buying Tiger Woods this year b/c I have 08.

It gets tough, especially during the holidays when all the big games come out. And, throw in the fact that I have a PSP, DS and 360, that's a lot of choices out there...

I wish I were 14 again, then I would only be able to afford 1 system and whatever games I could afford to buy or get as gifts. It is true, a lot of choices out there when you own several systems.

Re: Can video games stress you out?

I only get stressed with games that freak me out too much. left 4 dead i'm very excited for, but it's a thin line.

Some game for the ps2 I think where you're in a mental hospital, I just couldn't deal with. Also, Oblivion itself isn't scary, but there were moments that were so stressful, or seemed so unecessarily hard that I wanted to just get through w/o really enjoying. I remember once this ghost was right behind me and i didn't know it (they can be so quite) and we realized each-other's presence at the same time and I actually jumped it was so freaky, and had to stop for the night lol.

This is very hard to explain, but some games lose their edge and are actually stressful to play instead of being fun. Those are probably the games I don't buy or rent them and return them early..it's all opinion really. But the volume of good games doesn't bother me, I can't wait to get my hands on fallout3 and others.

Sliders stress me out. I hat having to tinker with a game for months to make it playable. Anyway, I am so glad there is no NCAA College Hoops 2009 coming out. I have those sliders nailed so come BBall season, I'll just pop in 2k8 and away we go.

COD4 is still fun for me and I'll probably get COD5. I hope to only get 1 or 2 games in the next calendar year.
