Looking for a Stealth/Sniper game

I'm tired of the run and gun, hordes flying in from everywhere,carrying 15 different ordinance types of shooters.
What I'm hoping to find is a game that is geared more towards stealth.
I would really love a game that has the player play solely as a sniper.
I didn't really like the hitman games.
I prefer PC...but will play any platform if the game is good enough.
Any ideas/recommendations?

Pretty obvious, go out and buy yourself a PS3 and play MGS4, nuff said because any other recommendation will pale in comparison to this game. It's got everything you want in a game.

I've got the PS3 part ....
I heard Metal Gear was a good game....but I didn't realize it was a stealth game.
I'm guessing it's along the lines of the Sam Fisher games?....

About Sniper Elite....I looked at the review of the game(just by doing a search) and it seems from the vids...there is some running around.
Is it more of a sneaking around type of game than the gameplay vids show?

But solely as a sniper? I'm not sure. If you want to go back to the PS2 days, I think Conflict: Desert Storm was sniper-heavy.

You can definitely play sniper elite stealth style, that's how it was meant to be played. You'll be hard pressed to find a better ballistics sim than SE too. Wind, gravity/distance, breathing, all taken into account.

SE is one of those games where you get out of it what you put in. If you go slow and low and take your time actually playing as a sniper, you'll have some fun. If you just run out there taking on the world, you can kind of sort of turn it into run and gun on the lower difficulties.

Sniper Elite was an awesome game. Loved playing nothing but a sniper all game. Very much like "Enemy at the Gates"

for me the best sniper/stealth game I've played is Battlefield 2. Whenever I get the urge to catch people by surprise or snipe some bastards that always filled my urge, especially knowing that someone is getting pissed on the other side of that player.

Never played it but I checked out some YouTube videos on it and it looks pretty good. I saw it has the follow bullet cinematic in there... pretty cool.

Also Hitman are great stealth games since you choose how to take targets out. Depending on which Hitman game you go with, you can pass almost every level by just being a Sniper. It also had some good Sniper only levels in there as well.

sniper elite. Pay no mind to the reviews, it's exactly what you're looking for. Just grab the xbox or ps2 version and I'm pretty sure they're Back/compad.

It was one of my favorite play-throughs of all time since I live for sniper gameplay. You can set little traps too, and if you play it like a sniper, it's very rewarding --- it requires boatloads of patience though.

fantastic game...I wish so badly they make a sequel, apparently when you go on the dev's website they claim it sold well so...

There is no more satisfying feeling in gaming than getting a 250 metre head shot in sniper elite.

Sounds like it's right up my alley.
