Remember that crazy rumor from yesterday that said that Nintendo would bring back a classic franchise for Wii? It was true: Nintendo said in Tokyo yesterday that it will release a new version of Punch-Out for Wii in 2009.

But really: Punch-Out. Cannot even tell you how excited I am. Especially as it seems to actually be based on the classic gameplay of the series and retain all of its major key elements, like ethnic stereotyping (those are croissants being pummeled out of French fighter Glass Joe, there).

You can see it in this montage, but it's only a few seconds long.

Good thing I picked up a Wii for Power Pro Baseball. Punch Out sounds awesome on the Wii.

The real question is who will the next Mike Tyson be?

My guess would be that they would stick with Mr. Dream like in the original arcade version and the VC release.

I'm definitely psyched about this game but it better not be a $50 game.
