I was never a fan of how games like Call of Duty, Brothers in Arms (I think?) handled the whole scripted teammates thing... that would only die when the game pretty much told them to... And not to worry, they would be back for the next mission if your previous one was completed.
I really wish that a developer would let you select, lets say 5-10 soldiers in your "crew" to beat all of the games missions. Soldiers you go to war with and hope that most of you can get out alive. If one of these solders die, they do not come back, unless you re-load your game. If you lose all of your soldiers, you must restart a previously saved game or restart the whole game. I truly believe that this would add a very realistic touch to a war game, and that it would increase the emotion of actually losing one of your great soldiers that has been fighting beside you since the start.
I was hoping Operation Flashpoint:2 would somewhat go into this direction - but from what I've seen, it looks like they are going more towards the generalized war games such as CoD, Rainbow Six, etc.
What do you guys think? I really think it would add to a genre that has somewhat felt stale in the past couple years. (I did like Cod4 online though).
