So what do you think of GameFly?

I wanted to get your opinions on this.

I've been using NetFlix the past few months for movies, and it's been great... saved me a lot of money on BluRays, and I've been able to see a lot of movies I hadn't before.

I'm thinking about going the GameFly route now as well, instead of buying games so frequently.

What do you guys think of their service? Pros? Cons?

    Thanks in advance dudes/dudets

Re: So what do you think of GameFly?

In my experience, I have NEVER been able to get a new release mailed to me. Most times, not even within 2 months. Also, their turnaround time is awful. Netflix is like 2 days. Gamefly was about 6-7 for me. Meaning, if I dropped a game in the mail on Monday, I'd be lucky to get the new one on Saturday. In all, it was an awful experience. I stuck with it for 12 months too. It never got better. I know others on here have had positive experiences, but I can't recommend them.

However, they do have sweet prices on used games. The cool thing about that is, if you already are renting the game, you know it works, because you're renting it at the moment. Then they ship you the case and the manual that is in pristine condition because they just open the game and save the case and manual for when someone buys it. No more ragged, snot crusted manuals and cases like they sell at Gamestop.

    Good luck...

      Highly recommended!

I completely disagree with the other guy comment, here is the facts:

      - The price is unbeatable, I have the 3 games plan for $ 32.99 monthly, thats like $ 10.00 per game for 30 days! rent a game at blockbuster is like $9.00 for only 5 days.
      - I has been there for almost 2 years and always get the game shipped on release date or day before, and get the game 2 days later, for example, game release Tuesday, I have it on Thursday.
      - You get coupons every month and 5 % or 10% discount to buy preplayed games at amazing bargain prices!
      - if you like the game, you simple decided to keep it, and they send the manual and case w/ free shipping, and save big bucks because the thing is that when you receive the game on the mail brand new you go to your gameq then choose to keep it for $42.00 more & less instead of the regular $59.99, then they ship the next game in your gameq inmediately!
I hope this help, get Gamefly bro, it is awesome! you never ever go back to Gamestop again to spend $60.00 in game and 1 month later trade in for $ 15.00, gamefly is a no brain.

I have not used them before, but might here real soon. These past two weeks have been a really good time to be a member i would assume, with all the great games coming out.

I've been with them for 4 years. I don't have too many problems. To the second poster, with gamefly, you really have to plan your rentals. If I know that a game that I want, comes out in 2 weeks, I send back my least played rental right then. I get all the new releases. And now they get them to you pretty quick. I rented Saint's Row 2, they shipped on Monday (Oct 13), I got mines on Wednesday (Oct 15). Now I have 2 accounts (4 games on one and 3 games on the other)

Edit: I've almost been with them for 5 years. My first rental was Project Gotham Racing 2 on 11/20/03.

Re: So what do you think of GameFly?

I'm using it for now to play new games I don't want to buy. I'm on the 2 games at a time plan, and right now I've got Dead Space, and have Saints Row 2 coming in the mail.

GF's been good to me, even if it takes forever for them to receive games and get new ones to me. I just chalk that up to the cost of doing business and figure paying 20ish bucks a month instead of buying 3 games at 180 is worth it.

I got to play Star Wars, Mercs 2, Heavenly Sword, Lego Batman, all games I'm glad I didn't buy.

It's slower than Netflix though, much slower for me...just worth noting. I deal, and eventually they'll have more shipping nodes, but that'd be the only negative. I think after this fall I may discontinue it for a while, because not as much stuff will be coming out, so I won't need it as much.

Re: So what do you think of GameFly?

I had a problem early on of only getting games way down my list, but that hasn't happened lately. Now I only keep new releases on there and get games quickly. I'm actually only a day away from becoming a level 3 and getting the 10% off of used games.

I also live near a post office that actually does the bar code scanning so gamefly knows I've mailed it back before they get it.

Re: So what do you think of GameFly?

It's hit or miss, and I've been with them since they started.

Sometimes I can get games right when they release, but if you don't have an empty spot in your availability there right when they get stock, you might end up waiting a week or more.

And then you have situations like I did last week, where I'm on a 4-game plan with only 1 game out and Blitz and Golden Axe were set to "release 10/14" or whatever it was.

I checked on the 14th and they were set to "Low" availability and nothing was shipped to me, despite having 3 available game slots and them at the top of my queue.

Other times they're great, and the turnaround used to be 3 days for me. Drop them in the mail, 1 day there, 2 days back. Now it's usually 4+. I think they just grew too much for their staffing, or they're terribly inefficient.

But in the end, they do save me a lot of money, which is the objective. I just have to exhibit patience a lot of the time.

It's fantastic for the "Buy Now" options, though. I got Saints Row 2 a day after release and it was listed as $42 to buy now. I applied a couple of coupons to it and it cost me $30 bucks, and it was brand new when I got it.

                  Can't beat that.

Yeah, that's the frustrating part....I've had no games out, new releases on my queue, and didn't get one right away...

But for saving money it's clutch, especially with my attention span, I'm playing a lot of games for a week and able to send it back rather than sell to GS.

Re: So what do you think of GameFly?

Depends a lot on where you live and the shipping center you are going to get games from. For me it was "okay" as I had a difficult time getting new releases, but it's my only option other than Blockbuster. And since it now costs just about $10 to rent a next-gen game (I think like $9.58 with taxes), I think I'm going to be going back to gamefly.

I'm in Iowa, would this have any effect on turnaround, etc?
