Just got the RTCW demo in OXM

It's the only playable demo this month. It has the Factory and the Crypt as playable levels (co-op play is available on the demo).

It's the cover story for the mag and there is a 10-page feature and review on it. OXM gives it a 9.2/10 on the review.

(+) Graphics and overall presentation are top notch.
    (+) Co-op play is a blast.
    (+) Incredible class-based multiplayer component.
(-) Music can get a bit repetitive.
(-) Co-op play is only available in splitscreen
(?) What cruel parents name their kid B.J. Blazkowicz?

There is video of True Crime, Sudeki, GodzillaAMM, Run Like Hell, Kameo, and Tao Feng on the demo.

    Cool!

Mine didn't arrive in today's mail, but I'm sure it will come soon. RTCW is one reason I bought an Xbox. My PC was underpowered when it originally came out, but I was dying to play it. I have very fond memories of Wolfenstein 3D.

How else could you do co-op?? You couldn't play it with 2 people on one screen without splitscreen.

I'm picking this game up for sure, it's awesome.

Here's some of the info on multi-player:

There are 16 maps and no fewer than 4 game types. Here are the 4 that they gave details on:

1: OBJECTIVE- In a stellar example of this CTF-ish game type, one scenario pits the Axis and Allies in a map called Norway. In the middle of a frozen port town, the Allies must storm the Axis base, retrieve key Axis documents, and return to their own docks with the papers in tow.

2: STOPWATCH- It's the same as OBJECTIVE, but each team is timed. If the Allies go first and complete the objective, teh Axis must then go on the offense and complete the task more quickly.

3: CHECKPOINT- There are five capture points on each map. The first team to take them all simultaneously wins. This one really gets hairy in the middle areas.

4: ELIMINATION- A glorified Last Man Standing, a team can claim victory in Elimination when everyone on the opposing squad is dead. Keep a Medic handy for healing the wounded along the way.
            ________________________________________

RTCW's class-based multiplayer is nothing short of super sweet, and a big reason is because of the class system. Each one has its own niche. And that green bar you'll see in the lower right-hand corner of the screen? It's your specialty meter. For instance, the Sopldier can fire his Panzerfaust rocket but must wait 20 seconds or so for the bar to refill and for the weapon to thus "reload." Here's the breakdown:

MEDIC: He starts with a middle-of-the-road machine gun, but the Medic doesn't get much ammo (just ask your friendly neighborhood Lieutenant for more.) Stick close to the other players and help them out by dropping health packs and reviving them with the syringe if they go down.

ENGINEER: Equipped with structure-blasting dynamite, the Engineer can take out walls, fences, gun placements, and if you're lucky, enemy soldiers. He's also got a pair of pliers for disabling enemy dynamite and gun placements. One more bonus: the Engineer gets more grenades than anyone else.

LIEUTENANT: Packing a good-sized automatic weapon, the Lt. is a formidable opponent. He's packing more ammo than anyone else and can dish out ammo packs to his teammates (or himself). What's more fun, though, is his air strike canister. Toss it and get the hell out of the way, because your boys in the air will come and drop some pain on the spot the canister lands.

SOLDIER: The Soldier is no mere grunt. He can tote the Venom chaingun, which can rip opponents to shreds in seconds. He's also the only one capable of using the Panzerfaust rocket launcer, a weapon that's as lethal as you'd expect it to be in real life. Unlike some other games, you won't survive a hit from this. In fact, if you're anywhere near an exploding rocket, you're toast. Oh, and if you see a guy with a flamethrower canister on his back, it's the Soldier.

OXM says that RTCW is the definitive XBL experience of the service's short history. They say the sheer volume of teamplay-focused goodness eclipses Ghost Recon, the office favorite.

They also love that an icon appears over the character that is talking when using the XBL communicator.

They mean that there is no System Link or XBL support for the co-op mode. If there were, then co-op could be played with each person getting a whole screen to play on.
