Re: CoD: World at War (Wii)

Well...just played my first game tonight. Started the campaign, and man, am I all over the place with the controller. I remember with CoD 3, there was a bit of training ahead of time. Not so much this time...they just save you from being captured, and you're thrown right out into the fire.

Graphics are good for a Wii game; there's a LOT going on and the video and sound is great. My aiming is horrible and just trying to get back into a FPS on the Wii (last one I really played was CoD 3). I've played several FPS on the 360 and just wanted something new. Only got about 30 minutes in tonight (I got the first basketball practice of the season tomorrow morning that I need to be ready to coach), but I'm looking forward to playing more.

I'm not a big one for online gaming, mainly due to the cheesers and just having to listen to a LOT of garbage on there. The online setup for this is pretty decent for the Wii. While there aren't as many options, there is 4 vs. 4 team deathmatch and also an 8 player free for all. I got connected smoothly, and thrown into a match within about 1 minute. Not hearing teammates was weird at first, but then following their arrows on the map and finding enemies wasn't a problem after a bit. I just wish that enemies were pointed out better at a distance (I guess that I should've just figured out that if they weren't notified as a teammate, then it was an enemy). My shot was HORRIBLE and I was probably the worst teammate ever; 2 kills and 11 deaths. Once again...flailing all over the place. However, just like CoD 3, I just have to play a bit and get used to the controls.

My biggest problem is due to not playing many WWII shooters in the past, so I don't know what each gun is and does. Which ones are fully automatic, which suck, etc. Did I have fun? Yes. I'll have a better feel for the game after a couple of more days, but I am looking forward to it and seeing how the Wii FPS experience plays itself out.

Try the Thomson and the Gewer Rifle. If they are on the Wii Version.

Re: CoD: World at War (Wii)

            Okay...just a quick update:

I've gotten a bit more time at this during the weekend, and I must say, I LOVE IT! The controls are great for a FPS. I love not having to swing the camera around just to get my target in the center of the screen; enemy off to the upper right, point the Wiimote up there and shoot away. Another thing I love is the rumble of the Wiimote to act like recoil. You can't just spray shot after shot into the EXACT same spot; you have to concentrate to compensate for the little rumble possibly throwing your next shot a bit off.

Online is a blast!! Yes, I've heard there aren't the same modes as the ps3/360 versions, but since I haven't played them, I don't miss them. I've only played 4 vs. 4 team deathmatch and it's smooth as can be. For no communication whatsoever with your teammates, people are actually pretty instinctual on how to flank, who to cover, to work as a group, etc. Plus...you don't have to listen to some of the stupid people that propagate random matches. When I get back on later, I'll post my friend code in my sig to hopefully start some Wii OS matches.

I'm not that far into the campaign yet (just securing the airfield) because I'm playing the 10 minute matches online all the time. I'm not a big online gamer, but I'm already addicted to the online gameplay of CoD:WoW on the Wii.

If you have any questions, fire away? Also, please tell me I'm not the only OSer playing this game on the Wii....if someone else is, please PLEASE jump in and give your impressions.

Another update: online is a BLAST!! If you have a Wii and yearn for a decent FPS, you owe it two yourself to get this game. It has a bit of a learning curve to get used to the controls, but once you do, they literally become second nature. You start flinging around from target to target and zipping around the map without really realizing you have a controller in your hand.

I've been reading and seeing that this game is not selling at all on the Wii. That's just a disappointment because if it doesn't, I can't see any decent 3rd party making a good FPS for the Wii any longer. It would be worth $60 if it cost that much...but it doesn't.

I don't have any next generation consoles in the house except for my brother's Wii, but I don't really play it much besides some Zelda, Mario, and Super Smash. Heck, I didn't even buy those games.

But I'll give this one a look on the various web sites and see if it's worth a purchase. I haven't really even looked into many games on Wii, but the FPS idea sounds like it could really work well.

Re: CoD: World at War (Wii)

I was looking for this thread! I even searched and couldn't find it. I have my methods, though.

So I rented the game for a few days and it was pretty damn fun. Granted, I haven't played the 360/PS3 versions of this game, but it was a good taste. The controls were very fun. It was a very good experience. The only time the Wii mote really gets me trouble is when I'm in close range combat with someone, but not close enough to just knife them. But I have a problem with panicking in that situation anyway.

If anyone just has a Wii and wants a FPS, this is the way to go.

if you get the game, let me know your friend code. I play this thing almost exclusively online now that I've beaten single player. I try to get in about an hour a night if I can.

I haven't played the ps360 versions, so I don't know (nor care) what I'm missing. What is there is dang fun and worth the money! The controls alone make the game.

How is the online compared to MOH: Heroes 2? I've been trying to find a better online FPS experience for awhile, but so far, MOH has been the best for me.

Re: CoD: World at War (Wii)

I haven't played MoH: Heroes 2....but here's how CoD: WaW works:

You click "multiplayer" and then "Nintendo Wi-Fi connection". After it logs you in (which is pretty quick), you click "Find Match". From there, you can do Bootcamp (capped at level 8), Team Deathmatch, Free for all, and Veteran.

I haven't done free for all, but Team Deathmatch is addicting as sin. It's only 4 vs. 4 with no voice chatting (dang you Wii Speak!), but 8 of the 12 ps3/360 maps are there (Dome, Courtyard, Upheaval, Cliffside, Castle, Makin, Asylum, and Hangar). There is absolutely no lag and people work off each other really well. I've run into groups of people (that I don't think have any association since I'm not in any private match) that just mob people like they are able to communicate.

I have absolutely no online friends for this game (mostly due to the fact I know no one with this game) and there's no way to add a friend, that I can see, from directly within the game. So, if you like playing with someone on your team, there's absolutely no way to get their friend code since there's no method of communication. YOU HAVE TO FIX THIS NINTENDO!!! For free online, however, it works very well.

I don't know how many nights 2 hours have passed when I totally intended on doing 2 quick 10-minute matches. 14 matches later......

If you have the ability to rent it first, do so in case you're not a fan of the control or the online. However, I feel that it's well worth the $50 I paid. I don't consider myself a big online gamer due to my lack of being able to devote consistent time with the new kid, but this has totally sucked me in. Well done, Treyarch.
