    I Completed My First Game

    I completed my first game, Uncharted. I know, "Big Deal!" That is what my son basically said, but I'm proud of myself. Pretty good for a 40 year old.

    I have always played sports games exclusively. Every non-sports game I have ever tried I have either lost interest or gotten too frustrated and quit (I know, what a wuss.)

    For some reason, Uncharted hooked me from the beginning. I had a blast all the way through it. It felt like having a book going. Each evening I would play for a time to unwind and each day I looked forward to joining that world. I couldn't wait to see how the game ended, but bummed when it was all over.

    Looks like I have been missing something all these years. Now I have to decide what the next game will be.

      Congrats! I'm planning to get through Uncharted while on winter break. I started it a couple months ago then it got lost in the shuffle of some other great games. Definitely looking forward to getting back to it though, especially since it now supports trophies!

              Wow. Small world. Besides the new Super Mario Brothers game on the DS, this was the first console game I completed as well. I too would play a chapter or chapter and a half a night. The game had me hook, line, and sinker. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I have no interest in playing any other non-sports games at this time. The next non-sports game I pick up with be Uncharted 2, whenever that is released.

                  Shame on you for not playing it yet.

                  Beyond that, it seems like this is not an isolated incident when it comes to Uncharted and OS, which I think is interesting. I wonder why Uncharted hit such a nerve with so many sports-minded people.

                      Uncharted is an amazing game. I want to play through it again since they patched trophies in.

                      I've been on a game completing tear while on vacation. I finished...
                      1) Left 4 Dead (I know, it's very short. But I still beat the four movies.)
                      2) LittleBigPlanet
                      3) Call of Duty: World at War
                      4) Gear of War 2
                      5) Resistance 2
                      6) Dead Space
                      7) Saints Row 2 (prior to vacay)
                      8) MGS4 (prior to)

                          I think it's the Indiana Jones movie type of hook...I really felt like I was that type of adventurer in a movie, wanting to see what happens. Combine a stellar story/cinematic experience with a relatively simple control scheme (compared to Mass Effect, for example), and I think you have a great game to bring people into the genre.

                              Congrats.

                              I admit I've had a hard time finishing games on previous systems, but the trophy/achievement system and better story lines on the current gen really help me up my completion rate.

                                  Oh I think it definitely taps into the Indiana Jones schemata but I just wish I could figure out why so many people have posted similar things to this. Maybe it's just a really good game, or maybe it has to do with age range. Indiana Jones touches certain demographics more than others maybe or something like that.

                                      Hammerhunker, I've only finished a few, Far Cry on the PC (the first one), and the first Halo, first Call of Duty. I couldn't finish Uncharted, just seemed too repetitive for me and I thought the jumping was sort of weird, but it was a gorgeous looking game and fun while I played it. Traded it in for FarCry 2 to hold me over until The Show comes out. I do buy all the baseball titles though.


                                      Recommend highly Far Cry 2, PS3 for you. Being an older gamer, it's not too hectic or too overwhelming for the controller challenged generation.

                                                  Congrats! Video games aren't only for kids/teenagers. My dad completed Far Cry, the first Medal of Honor, Call of Duty and many flight simulators in his mid and late 50's. Now he's 61 and keeps using his PC for games and editting movies.

                                                      Hey Jim, I think I subconsciously started Uncharted because of one of your posts so I will check out Far Cry.

                                                      As far as my son, he is a geek. He has finished every game he has ever played, and then goes back and plays to find alternate outcomes and such. He rereads books too. I am a one and done type of guy.

                                                      I think the Indiana Jones connection theory is true. I kept thinking of IJ when playing. My wife even made that comment as well.

                                                      The epiphany I came to was that games are like movies that you manipulate to get to the end. I know, others have already figured this out, but it gave me a new look at gaming. Great entertainment. I now feel that I bought my PS3 for just cause, not just for the Show.

                                                          I think that's true. I know that there were places I didn't go on the first map of Far Cry 2, prior to moving onto the second map. It appears this game really has replay value. I know if you get killed when going from one area to another and have to start at a previous save point you don't get the same recycled situation.

                                                          I think you'd enjoy it.
