Re: PC Guys...tell me what I need to build a great "gaming computer".
I'm about to pull the trigger on (just waiting on black friday to see if anything drops):
Gigabyte GA-EX58
Intel Core i7 920
G.Skill 6GB DDR3 Mem (Triple Channel)
x2 1TB Seagate Barracudas (7200 RPM, also have a Cheetah (15,000 rpm) for boot)
Total as of now (assuming I don't add anything) is $1020.
It's mainly for video but I do a bit of PC gaming as well.
All from newegg.

That being said, he also may have a lot of movies and stuff he needs space for. Otherwise I don't know what he'd need that much HD space forNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

I think MC does a lot of video editing and graphic design so maybe that's why he needs it.Comment

I don't really have a lot of movies or anything, I just don't like deleting source files.
I guess it is a bit excessive but as you said it can't hurt.

Ah, makes sense.
But, again, will your computer be able to use 6GB of RAM? Windows XP and Vista are limited in the RAM they can actually access - so you're going to want to make sure you actually buy an OS that can even see 6GB (I think only Vista 64bit will see more than 4GB, but I really, really wouldn't suggest Vista for a gaming machine... or any machine).Last edited by MC Fatigue; 11-25-2008, 09:52 AM.Comment

6 months ago, I would of never touched Vista with a 10 foot pole. But with the way the industry is going. Quad cores, Large volumes of ram, ect ect. Vista is a step we all will have to make soon. Even though given up my lovely XP is going to make me cry
My new build I am doing next week. I am switching to Vista.Comment

Yea I'm picking up vista 64 bit. Figured im going to pick it up sooner or later so mine as well take the plunge now.
This machine will only be video/media only though. I have another pc with xp on it for email, browsing, gaming, everything else.

I have a copy of vista but never put it in because XP is so solid. But with the bigger builds it can't take advantage of the hardware so you are forced to go Vista. They will continue to make Vista more stable, less resource hog, and better protection. It won't be the failure ME was :wink:Comment
