Gentlemen, look at the blog section of this site. The fact of the matter is that EA Sports games have garnered significantly higher metacritic scores than 2K Sports games. In the game industry as a publisher you miss more than you hit, and with the sheer amount of games out in conjunction with the economy (yes, it most certainly is a factor) those misses are going to be more pronounced. And sorry, contrary to popular belief amongst the haters......EA isn't buying their reviews. I can point out a number of EA titles that get reviewed poorly (NBA Live as just one example).

In terms of Madden and NCAA 09 claiming that they are better games than they have been the last few years far from gets you home in proving they are good games. When you compare a rotten apple to a ripe one a reasonable person is going to chose the ripe one every time they want to eat.

What you're missing is that it's a subjective argument. The quality of Madden is different to me than it is to you. If you are satisfied with a game that, when in franchise mode, pumps out ridiculous statistics then you may be satisfied with Madden but I may not be. Franchise may be my bread and butter while your bread and butter is online and so therefore the issues with stats are negligible to you. This is just an example but it's an illustration of how it is clearly a subjective standard that people apply when they complain about or defend a game's quality.

I think you are missing the crux of the issue, though. It depends who works on the game as to the quality you receive. You cannot simply blanket all of EA for the failure of a particular game because not every EA employee worked on the game. The NHL team did a wonderful job last year and the NHL title was highly anticipated this year. Madden and NCAA need work. 09 is a step in the right direction, but if you want to point the blame then you need to point it in the direction of the people involved in the production of those particular titles. You can't blame the NCAA production crew for the flaws of NBA Live.

Quite honestly, EA's games being "better" (and I use that loosely) isn't the work of one man. You don't know how the game industry works. Moore doesn't have a heavy involvement in the games as you guys assume. The game are better because of their natural progression from year to year.

I really thought this was common knowledge.

Quite honestly, EA's games being "better" (and I use that loosely) isn't the work of one man. You don't know how the game industry works. Moore doesn't have a heavy involvement in the games as you guys assume. The game are better because of their natural progression from year to year.

I started to agree but at the end you lost me. Games are better depending on who works on them. That seemed to be the beginning of your post and I totally agree with that.

Games aren't necessarily better from year to year. Sometimes that's the case, but you can't throw out such a general statement like that because it doesn't work in all cases. NCAA 2005 is a clear example of that theory gone wrong; that game was much worse than NCAA 03 and much worse than NCAA 05.

I should have stated when the same team works on a game and they are given enough time to develop a game they have a natural progression of being better.

Most of the changes you speak of are when different members of a team come on board and influence some aspects of a game. Such as NCAA this year...

I guess for all the "voice your opinion with your wallet" talk around here that has happened to some degree. The remaining question is how much has the economy impacted EA's sales versus the (perceived) quality of their games.

I agree with him.

EA's games have greatly improved over the last 3 years or so by building on what they have done in the previous versions.

That is only a true statement if you want to pretend the PS2/Xbox never existed.

That's your opinion. Having recently popped in xbox versions of both NCAA 05 and NFL2K5 for shats & giggles......I think i'll stick to next gen for more reasons than just visuals thank you very much.

Agreed! I don't see how people can say they'd rather play PS2 versions of the game.

The Next-Gen versions are no where near that bad!

And PARED!!!! Peter Moore is my third cousin on my momma side, before the rock rolled and the sun got warm....

Joking! Naw! I just respect the guy for what he did with 2ksports, the same as he doing with EA Sports!
