Persona 4 Thoughts

Anyone play this series? Reviews are pretty great for P4 but I've never played the series and was wondering how good it really is as I'm thinking of picking it up tomorrow.

IMO, Persona 3 was the best RPG of last year. I liked it even more than any western RPG from last year which is rare for me. Persona 4 is better.

However...The game takes a good 3+ hours just to have you doing anything besides pushing the X button. It takes its sweet time setting itself up like a movie. I like Shin Megami Tensei RPGs because their gameplay is always deep, they're less linear than any other JRPGs, and they take themselves seriously. Once you get passed the opening, the game really opens up and you'll be overwhelmed by the choices.

This a present-day real-world RPG. You start off as a normal high school student so it takes a bit of exposition for you to become a shape-changing savior of the world. The story is dark and reminds me of a japanese horror movie.

Basically, people are disappearing and then being shown on the television in bizarre situations at midnight on rainy days. Eventually, they are found dead hanging upside down from high places in public.

I don't know whether you'll like it because the Persona RPGs are unique. Sure, you kill monsters, gain levels, gain skills, and get loot, but you also get stronger by talking with other characters and making friends. It's the kind of game where someone may mock you if they watch you play it because it has some "The Sims"esque gameplay. I can't stand The Sims, but I love Persona.

I have Persona 3 FES right now and for some reason I haven't really played it besides when I first bought it. It is on a list of games I need to go back and finish.
