I got a DS, now what do i do with it?

Hay guys, I recieved a DS for christmas.

At first i thought, sweet, this will be great for when I travel, as i travel quite a bit for work.

I then went to gamestop and bought Shaun white snowboarding and Lego Star Wars two.

    Fail.

Both games held my attention for about 5 minutes, they seem like games you could find at miniclip or something.

I play sports games (APF, NBA2k) games like Fallout and Mass Effect, and first person shooters.

Is this system just wrong for me? Should I trade for PSP?

Any idea for some games that are great at killing time and arent so damn short?

    Please help

    Zelda's a fun game...

You may be better off with a PSP though, that's more console-like vs. the DS. The DS won't give you anything remotely comparable to Fallout or ME, and it's not known for FPS.

Do you like the Guitar Hero games? There are two available for the DS that are fun if you like those games.

      Atlanta Braves
      - Auburn Tigers - Nashville Predators

Agree with all points. I have both systems and find myself using the PSP a lot more than DS right now.

Oh, Lego Star Wars II has a couple of game-killing bugs in it, so if you can, return it and get something else ASAP.

The best games on DS seem to be platformers and RPGs. I also like the text-based adventures like Hotel Dusk and Phoenix Wright.

Zelda is a lot of fun and the touch-screen controls are the best on the system. Some action games use stylus-only controls, and, while fun at first, get old quick.

New Super Mario Bros. is fun. Mario Kart DS is really good and the online community is still active.

But, if your main thing is sports games and FPS games, then you might be better off taking the DS back and getting a PSP. The games are pretty similar to a lot of the PS2 versions.

ehhhh not so much into rocking the guitar hero thing while on a plane or a show.

Has anyone played Civ or Advance Wars?

Games like that that you can play for a bit, put down, then just pick up and keep going and it doesnt look exactly like your rocking out or anything

Oh, and forgot to mention that since you mentioned you traveled for work, the PSP might be a better buy as you can also do things like watch movies, watch videos, read comics, listen to music and surf the web on your PSP.

I've got the first Advance Wars on DS and it's a fun game. Just keep in mind that it's turn based and moving tanks/armies around with movement points etc.

Like the games that have been mentioned, with some others (SMB, Mario Kart, Phoenix Wright, Trauma Center, Animal Crossing) the DS has some fun games. They're just more "quirky" and different than console games. Not really as gripping or deep as what you might expect compared to console games.

Professor Layton's supposed to be cool too, but I haven't gotten a new DS game in a while and haven't played it.

Feel you on the handheld. My gf and I bought her son a PSP for Christamas. I had been thinking about getting one until I played his. It held my attention for about 5 minutes before I grew tired of the small screen.

Professor Layton's Curious Village is a fun game. Thats perfect for travel and whatever because you are solving puzzles and and can save at any time.

Panzer Tactics is a pretty sweet war game too.

I bought the DS for Tecmo Bowl. Epic Fail for that game, but the DS still has some good qualities. I have a 3 year old daughter, she'll inherit it and some dogs games in the near future.

I had a DS for about a week. Even if I traveled a bunch, I really couldn't see myself playing it. I'm a home console kind of guy. Even when I was a kid I didn't play my gameboy or gamegear very much.

                        There are some good FPS
                        Call of Duty WOW
                        Metroid Prime Hunters
                        Dementium Ward

there are some really good strategy games
                        Age of the Empire 1 & 2
                        Advanced wars 1 & 2

Like the other posters said good RPG's and text based games, but if you really like FPS and sports then the PSP is the handheld for you. Good Luck

There are plenty of Final Fantasy and Mario games for the DS (and GBA) that you can get. I would be fine the rest of my life if I had those games to play.
