Re: Mass Effect 2
You know, I kind of have that going on too. For me at least, I was more engaged in ME1's story than ME2. ME2's felt shallow overall. Now, the character development was definitely better...I'm just talking the main arc/plot of the story. ME2 just seemed a bit disjointed (and yes, I know that was at least partially due to the intended pacing, etc).
With that said, ME2 is on my short list of awesome for 2010, and might be my GOTY. So if they have a more engaging story to go along with all the improvements ME2 brought along, ME3 will be damn near perfect IMO.
Spoiler
I played ME1 with at least 4-5 play throughs. I got a 1/4 into a second Vanguard play through of ME2 and stopped. ME2 is one of those games that I want to really but it my book of classics, but for some reason I can't. I think the face lift of the RPG elements, including loot drops had a lot to do with it since I was a fan of those things. I know inventory was a mess in ME1 but I was hoping they would have cleaned it up, not remove it. Other things that I didn't care for:
- The addition of Ammo/heat sink.
- The way different ammo became a power instead of an ammo type.
- The lack of armor and customization. Painting isn't armor customization. Plus with purchasing armor, you end with the same things because of the upgrades that it provides. I don't know anyone that didn't have a visor on. Also, why doesn't your crew need armor?
- Lack of guns. This upgrading system didn't make sense to me. You would find upgrades to the original gun, but you end up using the special gun that you found that's not upgradable.
- I didn't like the mission summary screen at the end of each mission. It was too much of a reminder of old-school gaming as if I finished a level of Kung-Fu. For as theatrical a game this is, it was a slap of reality at the end of each level. They should have just went to the debrief room. I really didn't even read the summary at all.
I agree with the main story being lost. You only have 3 missions against the main enemy, the Collectors. Where as ME1, you were always pursuing the Geth and Saren and they were a constant threat. ME2 you spend almost 50% of the game helping your crew tie up loose ends, and 25% on recruiting missions. All these battles are against a vigilante gang or robots that I still don't get where they are from.
The game was great for what it was and I know I will finish the second play through some day, especially with the mining patch. I loved the conversations, the movie quality dialogue and the QT renegade/paragon choices. I am not saying that I didn't enjoy the game (because I did) but as a sequel it took a very hard left turn from its original that I wasn't expecting. I hope ME3 brings it all together.

Re: Mass Effect 2
I probably should have went with a different class but I was unsure about the other ones. I was considering Vanguard but I figured if I used that one I would get destroyed because it involves close-range combat.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: Mass Effect 2
Man, this game just pulls you in and forces you to sit on your couch for hours upon hours. You get so attached to the story and characters. I'm still early (5 hours in) but so far the game has been just as good as the first. Not gonna lie , I do miss some of my old team members.
One cool part I've gone through so far was....
Spoilerwhen I went back to the crash site of the original Normandy ship. I like how there was the flashbacks to how the Normandy was in the first game. What was really crazy to me was that when I found that datapad that had messages from the first game, I actually remembered all of them.
The little things like that really make this game special. IMO the only way you can play this game is by going through the first game. It just wouldn't be the same without doing that.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Mass Effect 2
Anyone got any tips for fighting those Collector bastards with a soldier class?
I finished that mission where you escape their ship but it was a pain in the *** and it has me worried my Shepard might die in the last mission.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Mass Effect 2
The only recommendation I can give you is always aim at the super powered collector before anybody else and fully upgrade the piercing ammo.Comment

Re: Mass Effect 2
It really helps to have party members with warp. Incinerate is also pretty useful.Comment

Re: Mass Effect 2
You really have to suck to have Shepard die at the end, so you shouldn't have to worry about that. Just make sure you tie up all the loose ends and you should be good.

So basically anything inciderary is good against them? I have Zaeed's inferno grenade from that advanced training upgrade so that should help.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Its not too thin and not too thick. You get the support your body needs.

Re: Mass Effect 2
Incinerate eats up armor as does warp. Warp also seems to work well on shields and barrier.Comment

Re: Mass Effect 2
I actually wouldn't have minded going through the first game again because I find myself saying "Who?" or "What?" sometimes when they mention some people or events/locations from the first game.Originally posted by bradtxmaleI like 6 inches. Re: Mass Effect 2
So my profile got deleted and I need to go back and get ME1. Are there any add ons for ME1 that would matter in ME2 or can I just leave them alone? P/R points or any references? I'm gonna try and knock it out quick before NCAA 11 drops.
And may thy spirit live in us, Forever LSU
