Couldnt hurt to try the demo. PS3 and 360 has one.

I never played either one...but they seem interesting. Do people think it's worth it to play through Mass Effect 1 first, or does it matter? Are they essentially the same game, or is one much better than the other?

If you have the opportunity, I feel that playing ME1 is a must. The gameplay is a little dated, but it will really get you immersed into the universe and the story. Plus, your decisions in the first game carry over into the second game and it is confirmed that they will also carry over into the third.

I hope one day ME is released for PS3 otherwise it is a game i will never play (not a pC or 360 gamer).

Microsoft was the publisher for the first Mass Effect. Thats why your not seeing it on the ps3.

Such is life. I can't justify buying a 360 for one or 2 exclusive games. But at least i will get to play 2 and ME3 as well!

If you own a decent enough PC, you can get ME1 on there for $10 when its on sale. I think it would be a good to play through.

I just recently beat the first ME and am chugging through the 2nd game. Is there really a penalty to not being a straight renegade even though that's my character type? I had red and blue options available for the dialog sequences, but I noticed last night on one of the loyalty missions that one of them was grayed out.

I guess my question is, do I only need to achieve a certain number of renegade/paragon points to have those options open to me, or does the requirement get larger throughout the game....making it possible to lock those choices for me if I don't sway one way or the other for the vast majority of the game?

Playing through as soldier right now btw, but I think I need to start over all the way back with the 1st game as something different...either an adept or sentinel.

yes. i never did either and I love it. IMHO the demo didn't do it justice.

Jack died in the end but I beat them cheeks and she hated me anyway, so no loss

Took me 25 hours on the first playthrough and I did every side mission. I just love how lively the cities feel in the game...5th Element like. Believe it or not, finding a control hack to use my PS3 controller saved the game for me. Had no way of sitting at the computer using keyboard/mouse.

This game is awesome, but for some reason I can't get used to the controls. I hate having the manual on the game, not paper.

(assuming 360 controls are similar)
Press X to get behind something.
Hold L2,aim with the stick,press R2 to shoot.
Press /\ to do something neat.
Press L1 or R1 to do something else neat.
Hold L1 or R1 to choose the neat thing you want to do.
