Rumors of a PS3 Mass Effect Port are "Inaccurate"

Following EA's purchase of Mass Effect developer BioWare back in October 2007, the RPG series being taken in a multiplatform direction seemed like a matter of time more than anything else. Both EA and BioWare were quiet about the future of Mass Effect in the wake of the acquisition, and ever since, we haven't heard much other than a possible Mass Effect for DS -- something that Microsoft wouldn't necessarily be against even if they had control, given the fact that they allowed Viva Pinata to appear on DS -- and a mention just recently of Mass Effect 2. Any other rumors you may have heard -- like the possibility of the original Mass Effect being ported to PS3 -- are "inaccurate," according to EA.

An EA spokesperson issued a short statement to videogaming247, proclaiming, "The rumor regarding Mass Effect being developed for PS3 is inaccurate." Fair enough. But what about future Mass Effect games? "[It's] Impossible for EA to provide comment on this given that no such games have been announced," the spokesperson said.

Disappointing news for PlayStation 3 owners, and it also casts doubt on the potential for future Mass Effect games landing on PS3. The original was a fairly heavily story-driven game, so picking up in the middle of what's planned to be a trilogy doesn't make much sense. Of course, they could always fill gamers in on the events of the original, or maybe EA isn't telling the truth -- we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, let's hope we get some confirmation of Mass Effect 2 at this year's GDC.
