Re: New American McGee's Alice Announced
You can use the code ALICEMADNESS at check out to get $10 off on the PC version through Origin. If you've already pre-ordered you'll have to have it cancelled through EA support and get it again because you can't manually do it or put the code in anywhere.Comment

Eurogamer Review - 5
While Madness Returns looks thrilling in screens and trailers, what you're seeing there is almost all of the assets that the game has to offer (you're also seeing the PC version, which is slightly prettier than the console versions). Those are the environments that you'll see, repurposed and arranged in different ways, for hours on end.
With its ostensibly wondrous setting, this game should have felt like a celebration of creativity. Instead it feels cynical and even cheap, as if it were the official game of a Hollywood movie that was never made. The strangest thing about this is that there's probably almost enough content here to make for a pacey and surprising 12-hour game - but it's all spread out over 22 hours instead, making the game's title irritatingly apt.
Madness Returns? You bet it does. Those same sodding art assets, set-pieces and enemies return to you over and over again, like undercooked bits of food that aren't content to sit in your stomach. The amount of padding in this game is absolutely bizarre. If you didn't think duelling a teapot with an eye could get boring, this game will teach you otherwise. It will teach you to hate teapots with eyes. And then it will keep you behind after class to fight multiple teapots with eyes in a dozen slightly different arenas.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

IGN...
Closing Comments
On one hand, Alice: Madness Returns presents a fantastically imagined vision of Wonderland full of secrets, collectables, and wondrous areas of classic platforming to explore. But through questionable level design, graphical inconsistency, and repetitive gameplay, I was pulled out of the experience more than I would have liked. Alice: Madness Returns is a memorable peek through a flawed looking glass.
7.5 Presentation
The game’s style is impressive, between the rendered characters, the 2D cut-scenes, and most of Wonderland’s levels.
6.5 Graphics
The game’s art is inconsistent - hitting high points on certain levels and suffering during others.
7.0 Sound
Eerie music and competent voice acting help set the tone for the game, but repetition sets in during longer sequences.
6.5 Gameplay
Invisible walls grow increasingly frustrating in the search for secrets and moving through the chapters.
7.5 Lasting Appeal
Long chapters, hidden collectibles, and the addition of the original American McGee’s Alice make this a lengthy adventure.
6.5

3.5/5 from Gamepro.
Inspired art design and a rich, twisted world carry Spicy Horse's Alice, but awkward pacing, repetitive gameplay, and a lack of polish keep it from soaring.
I'm playing through the remake before I play this so no personal comments.
PC version also came with the DLC for free, noticed it's $2 in the XBL marketplace unless there was a code in the box or something like that.Comment

Giant Bomb Review - 4/5
Carving a few hours out of the game's fifteen-or-so hours of runtime would've alleviated Alice's only real negative indulgence, but even as it stands, Madness Returns is an engaging slice of dark fantasy, one that reaffirms American McGee's command of both the unhinged and the fantastical.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

$34.99 at Kmart starting today. I think I will pick up a copy after reading all the positive impressions on GAF. You would get most of it back by trading it in next month with Gamestop's 40% trade-in promo too.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: New American McGee's Alice Announced
Finished chapter 3, probably played about 7-8 hours. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It's an old school 3D action-platformer with some new school ideas thrown in. You simply don't see many of these types of games these days. Not going to say some of these reviewers are wrong, but I do think the style of game, the length, and having to rush through before an embargo immediately after covering E3 didn't help. This isn't a game I would play for hours on end, because it would begin to drag, and I would say the same for other games of its type.
The platforming is solid. Don't expect any Nintendo brilliance in terms of level design, but they add just enough new stuff to keep you engaged, and the controls are tight. Combat is suprisingly good. It's no Bayonetta, but it's not mindless hack/slash, and requires your attention with timing and weapon switching to deal with enemies. The lock-on mechanic isn't great. It works fine from a distance, but a simple option of clicking in the right stick to center the camera behind Alice would have mostly alleviated the issues that crop up from time to time. The art is fantastic with each new chapter having a different theme to its look. The voice acting is good. The story is interesting, but so far not as dark as the first Alice. Lots of things to collect off the beaten path, and a New Game+ option. It's just a really solid game mechanically with good production values. It's likely going to bomb, so it should be cheap in no time. Give it try if you like platformers.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: New American McGee's Alice Announced
Yeah most of the good reviews are blasting the bad ones. Basically saying they don't what gaming is anymore etc...Even the good reviews are saying what the downfalls are but the say it's very fun and is (with all the collectables) pretty long.
Picking it up today since 1: I love off the beaten path games and 2: I like platformers and 3: anything without COD in title automatically gets a +3 added to my review..
it's 39.99 right now...Last edited by Skyboxer; 07-03-2011, 09:23 AM.Joshua:

Re: New American McGee's Alice Announced
Ok I picked it up. PS3 version as well as the PS3 version of Darksiders. I already played DS for 360 but never finished it. Decided to get PS3 version because other than sports games I'm trying to go all PS3.Joshua:

Now to impressions:
F the reviewers that gave it low scores. IMO the game is very fun and is a solid platformer. And why does every game get lower scores if it doesn't have multiplyer??? Multiplayer is so overated and I'll take a great SP experience over multiplayer any day. Seriously the game doesn't need or IMo would fit with MP.
I'm still only on chapter 1 but man it's fun.
Just upgraded my Vorpal blade for the first time. Next I'll upgrade the pepper grinder..
Lol Love the weapons!
The mood and setting is what I was hoping for and isn't a let down.
So far on chapter 1 I've collected:
3/14 Snouts
8/26 memories
3/18 BottlesJoshua:

Re: New American McGee's Alice Announced
I started playing this over the weekend and I love it. I played through Chapter One and cant believe that this game got such mediocre reviews. The atmosphere, weapons, and everything is top notch imo.
Tried playing the orginal and it is almost unplyable on the consolesActually...believe it or not from my physique... I'm a light eater - Clay T. ShaverComment
