Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

    First details, trailer, and screens.

    IGN

IGN: Call of Juarez had some mixed reviews. What are you doing to ensure the sequel is top notch?

Pawel Kopinski: Everyone is going to be pleasantly surprised as we've made huge improvements. We spent a significant amount of time reviewing the feedback and making sure the sequel emphasizes the many positives the first game delivered, while addressing and improving upon its minor flaws. Equipped with this feedback, the sequel is essentially a brand new game, as it is being built from the ground up to ensure a truly original gaming experience!

From a technical point of view, the Chrome Engine is now in its fourth version and we've managed to achieve increased performance allowing for even more polygons on screen and advanced special effects. While we focused on the game's core strength, its shooting mechanics, we're also very proud of the enhanced wide open environments and natural wildlife. Additionally, we stayed true to the two character dynamic and even added the ability to choose between the McCall Brothers before almost every mission.
IGN: Can you explain how the combat system works? What are the "shooting modes" that open up?

Pawel Kopinski: Being the only first person shooter set in the Old West, we've continued to focus on the shooting experience as the core of the game's development. In this sequel, the shooting experience will be even more brutal and visceral. Every time you kill an enemy, you'll fill a gauge on the top right corner of your screen. The more accurate your shots, the faster your gauge will fill up. As soon as your gauge is full, you'll have 60 seconds to unleash a special "Concentration Mode" that demonstrates the lightning quick and deadly accurate shooting skills that the Most Wanted gunslingers of that era possessed.
IGN: Why did you choose to make the campaign cooperative and how will that work?

Pawel Kopinski: There is no co-op in the traditional sense. Dual collaborative game play in Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood means that players can switch between two characters before almost every mission, but play alongside each other regardless (if you choose Ray, Thomas will be running alongside you and vice versa).
IGN: How has the competitive multiplayer changed from the first game?

Pawel Kopinski: The multiplayer is one of the biggest and best features of this new game. We organized tons of focus groups to analyze the industry's most popular multiplayer titles and the results will be evident in the finished product. Expect a ton of details about this very soon. You won't believe it.

I'm a sucker for western themed games. With this and the new Red Dead Revolver, I'm pretty happy. Now all we need is a sequel to Gun.

Re: Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

Hopefully you'll actually get to,ya know,do stuff this time.

I remember I had to acquire a key...

        Plan 1
Hit the guy with a chair and take it.
        Result
Hit the guy with a chair that made it game over because hey, you're not allowed to hit the guy with a chair.

        Plan 2
Throw the bottle at the bar tender and cause a brawl downstairs, sneak in and take.
        Result
Throwing the bottle at the bartender resulting in a game over because hey, you're not allowed to throw bottles at the bartender.

I don't remember how I actually solved that.
        Then I come across...
        Guy pulls gun on me
        Plan 1
Shoot him in the face with my gun before he shoots me
        Result
Game over because he wouldn't shoot him!

        Plan 2
Punch him in the face and take his gun
        Result
Game over because he wouldn't punch him in the face!

        Solution
Run away and use your rope to do a jump.
        Result
Game put back in box and taken back to rental store 2 days early.

So hopefully that kinda crap is done away with because I like the idea but that's about as NON-wild west as you can get.

            Gamespot

Bound in Blood features iconic Wild West settings, from wide-open plains to Native American reservations to small frontier towns. The narrative is delivered through some nice sketched storyboard cutscenes complete with a rustic, sepia-tone look. Bound in Blood's action won't take place entirely on foot. There is some horseback-style gunslinging and even one part that will require shooting at a stagecoach from a canoe. There will also be some open-world exploration, and not all of the traversing in the game is strictly A to B. The locations are inspired by historic events, and the settings include the OK Corral and Civil War battlefields.
The concentration feature is back from the first game, allowing you to press a button and slow down time for cinematic-style executions. There will be four variations of concentration. One lets you line up 12 hostiles with dual six-shooter pistols in slow motion (not dissimilar to Fallout 3's VATS feature) before quickly disposing of them in a barrage of bullets. Another concentration option has two sights, controlled respectively with the analogue sticks. One particularly cool concentration mode lets you fire off a quick string of bullets by flicking the right analogue stick down to **** the hammer without having to worry about reloading or aiming. It looks like a novel way to use a standard Xbox 360 controller and hopefully it will be fun in the game's context. You can build up your concentration gauge through kills, with headshots being worth double points. You activate it with a press of the B button, and you have 60 seconds to use it up.
Video Interview that shows a little gameplay too. Looks great.

            ...

            Kotaku

They also wanted to make sure to build iconic wild west moments into the game, so you get to rob a bank, attack a train and see plenty of wide landscape in Arizona.
I also get a chance to see some horseback riding, with one of the characters shooting as he rides around the area. The game also features roping, which uses the thumbstick to sort of simulate the movements of trying to lasso an object.
The game will also have the occasional duel. In this mode you character takes up a large section of the screen, with the camera focus on the player's hip, hand and gun. You can also see the other character standing with his hand ready to draw.

Players will have to use one thumbstick to try and keep their character's hand as close to the gun as possible without touching it, and the other thumbstick to try and keep the enemy centered in the screen. When you hear a bell ring you slap the thumbstick toward your gun and your character draws. Then you have to pull the trigger as the targeting reticule automatically zips up from the ground, making sure to hit your target.
Bound in Blood's multiplayer is meant to be a gaming version of cops and robbers, with one side playing as the sheriff and his posse and the other playing as the robbers. While I didn't see multiplayer demonstrated, they told me that it will include a bounty system which increases the pay off for killing a player the better they are doing. The bounty earned in mulitplayer can be used to unlock classes.

Multiplayer will also include a wanted mode, with a team trying to take out the single wanted player and his protection.
