Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil
IGN Review - 4.9
Anybody that picked up Guitar Hero 5 shortly after release had the chance to snag Guitar Hero Van Halen for free through a promotion. They got what they paid for. For everybody else that might be looking to Guitar Hero Van Halen in stores, stay away. No effort was put into making it good. It’s a step backwards for the franchise and a totally unnecessary release. -

I am glad that this was free. I am happy for having 20 something VH songs to play............but this is sad if Activision/Neversoft will resort to this kind of business model for band games. They give Van Halen no real love in this game and I would love to know why no Hagar. I really liked what Harmonix did with The Beatles and that is how these band games should be treated.
I got mine is the mail yesterday with the GH5 promotion but haven't had a chance to play it yet. I will probably just play through it once and see if I can sell it, although I'm not optimistic since it says "not for resale" right on the disc. Will Gamestop/Blockbuster take discs like this? I would like to be able to trade in GH5 and GHVH for close to the price of Lego Rock Band.Xbox Live Gamertag: MizzouBrentComment

Wow, that's amazingly low score.

It's great to have the VH songs for sure but they did this band a dis service with this game...could have been great.PSN:EVH_4_EVERComment

Songs that I would have added:
-D.O.A.
-Light Up The Sky
-Could This Be Magic?
-Dirty Movies
-Where Have All the Good Times Gone!
-Can't Get This Stuff No More
-Me Wise Magic
-How Many Say I (EVH Sings, kind blah, but a track to fill out)
-Respect The Wind (Instrumental EVH)
-The Wild Life (Instrumentals by EVH for this film)Comment

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil
Yeah I just played a few songs, and Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind is obviously a re-record. If it's not, then they must have used an alternate take or something, because it sounded way different to me.
This thing is definitely getting Ebayed after I beat it and pick up the achievements that are easy.Xbox Live Gamertag: MizzouBrentComment

I'm hoping this one fails just out of spite for not getting it for free in Canada.I'll still rent it.
Yes Semi-Charmed Life is a re-record. It was mentioned in the RB topic they were re-doing their songs for that.
Activision didn't pick all the songs and apprently Roth had nothing to do with the lack of other songs:
Along with more than two dozen Van Halen songs, the likes of Weezer, blink-182, and Tenacious D are also included. Wait, what?
IGN caught up with the head of music licensing at Activision, Tim Riley, to find out how those bands came to be a part of Guitar Hero Van Halen. Turns out it was all Wolfgang's doing.
"At the end of the day, it became Wolfgang Van Halen, who is a serious Guitar Hero player -- probably the best Guitar Hero player that I've ever seen including people at Activision...They knew that, the Van Halen brothers and David Lee Roth, so they were like, 'Ask Wolfgang what bands he wants in.'"
And did David Lee Roth's massive ego have anything to do with the lack of Sammy Hagar songs on the disc? "David Lee Roth, I don't know that he demanded anything," said Riley. "That guy was so cool and so pleasant to work with."
He continued, "In my mind we never even talked about it...I don't think the band ever said 'no'. I don't think we ever requested a single song or ever talked about it. It certainly wasn't David Lee Roth saying there was no way or this is a mandate."Comment

GH 5 alone should be $30.

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil
LOL! Yeah, cracks me up since they probably believe those other bands help sell these band games. Beatles should be an indication how a full band game kicked the crap out of GH5.Comment

Re: Guitar Hero: Runnin' with the Devil
I didn't even notice the song facts missing from GH 5/BH. Now that I remember them cause of this I miss them again.
Looks like you don't get credit for jumping through achievement wise. I want the 80's VH so I'm skipping a bunch of songs.Comment

How much I wish this also had mid/late 80's and 90's VH.Comment
