Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time (PS3)

    Eurogamer

Sony has announced that the next full PS3 Ratchet & Clank game will be on shop shelves this autumn.

It's called A Crack in Time, for some reason, and follows Ratchet on his mission to rescue Clank from Dr. Nefarious. Along the way, the titular heroes will discover their true origins and so reveal their destinies.

Series developer Insomniac (also of Resistance 2 fame) is adding spaceship battles and navigation this time, plus the usual refreshed assortment of bonkers weaponry.

All that plus laughs aplenty and top-notch visuals that don't look too far off an animated film, if previous PS3 releases Tools of Destruction and Quest for Booty are anything to go by.

I was JUST about to post this. Ah! I am so excited. This is the ONLY series, where I have beaten EVERY title in the series (aside from the psp versions)

This IMO, is the best series in gaming and cant wait for this to comeout

This series is far too epic. I just wish there was some real form of replayability in these games... either somehow incorporating online play, co-op multiplayer, or just something that would make me want to play this game over and over again.

That, or like 40 hours of single player. Unfortunately aside from that these games always have to be rentals for me, as stellar as they are.

Did you ever play the 3rd one? Up Your Arsenal?

I really thought the online play was fantastic in that game... But online was kinda rare for the ps2

That aside, it brought some hours of replayability for me. Even though, I like just playing the game for fun on the 2nd play through will all of the weapons maxed out and such

Add Future to the title, please.

Introducing Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time

                Hey everyone,

Greetings from the SCEA Blogger’s Lounge at GDC! Last week, we teased you with our Ratchet & Clank Future Weapons Contest and the new action figures coming from DC Direct. While I’ll talk more about this in a bit, we are very happy at Insomniac to finally announce the name of our next game.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time will conclude the story arc that started in Tools of Destruction and continued in Quest for Booty. There will be plenty to talk about over the next few months as we work towards our fall release, and we can’t wait to share more. But for those of you wanting a first look, tune into Gametrailers TV this week on Spike TV (check your local listings for time) for the world premiere of the teaser trailer.

For those of you who have been e-mailing us with questions about the Weapons Contest and asking when and where you can submit, you’ll be happy to know that submissions are open as of tomorrow! I’m also excited to announce the Grand Prize winner will have their weapon included in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, will be given a life-size replica of the weapon, and will win a trip to San Diego Comic-Con to meet with the dev team and reveal the winning weapon to the public there!

As inspiration for you guys, tune in tomorrow for a little video roundtable talking about some of our favorite weapons stories and experiences over the years of working on Ratchet & Clank weapons.

That’s all for now, make sure you tune into GTTV to check out the teaser trailer!

yeah I wished they had them too. But it took me so long to get all the in-game achievements, I don't know if I would have gone through to get 100% again if you needed that for all the trophies.

I know what you mean. I highly doubt they ever go back and add trophies as their main concentration now is getting this new game out in the fall. I will have to play both games before this one hits.

Had the first one (on PS3) since launch, and never played past the first level, haha. I REALLY need to... I bought it for my gf originally, and she still raves about it.

Of course she has now beat Killzone before me as well, so.....

Yah, seriously. Although I haven't played the other one yet, I know the story.

Is that supposed to be Ratchet in the future? Maybe a descendent perhaps?

Ratchet & Clank Live Q&A with Insomniac Games
                              • We started this game before R2 was finished. It had been in early preproduction after we wrapped up RCF1 and we shifted more people on to it after we wrapped up Q4B.
                              • Captain Qwark is one of our favorite characters and he absolutely will be returning for Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. He'll actually have more screentime than ever.
                              • Our plan is to take all the weapons to 11. So yes more crazier than RCF!
                              • There will be more wrench usage and elements from Quest for Booty. We learned alot from designing the wrench set ups in Q4B and plan on expanding on that mechanic.
                              • The boss battles in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time should be larger and more epic than any that we've done in the past. We can't reveal much right now but definitely stay tuned to hear and see more in the future.
                              • The story takes place right where Q4B left off. It's a continuation of the saga.
                              • Personally speaking (and without revealing too much), I think the story is probably the best we've ever done and is my favorite part of "ACiT". It's hilarious and epic ...or hilariously epic... or something like that.
                              • I really like the time elements that we've been developing for the story and the gameplay. It's something we have not explored much of in the series yet totally makes sense for a Sci-Fi game. It is definitely a new design and writing challenge for us.
                              • We were very happy with the island puzzles in Quest for Booty and I think you'll see lots of new puzzle innovations in RCF: ACiT as well.
                              • Clank will play a larger role and is getting a few more tricks up his sleeve.
                              • RCF: ToD was a great primer for bringing our style of game to this generation of hardware. Moving forward to Quest for Booty, we actually got to try out alot of new mechanics that we wanted to develop for ACiT. You can consider Quest for Booty to be our equivalent of a Pixar "short" to test out new technologies prior to using them in feature length movies (or a full length game in our case).
                              • RCF:ACiT should feature a good balance of both platforming, puzzle gameplay, and shooting without leaning toward any one type too heavily.
