The demo was pretty neat. Not quite sure what I was doing though in particular with the targeting system.

          Re: End of Eternity (360/PS3)

          Yup.

Pressing X starts them running towards the target.
Then you can press X again at any time to jump in the air and when the target is in site press A to shoot. Press A again when it says to keep the attack going.
          OR
You can press A when in close range to start a pop up attack and there's various button combos for that.
          OR
If under the right circumstances you can press Y and then X for a triple team attack.

RT seems to switch from guns to grenades but I didn't find that out until after beating the boss so I'm not sure what they do.

Don't know what the bar at the bottom of the screen is for either but on newcomer you get a big bar and on normal you only get 3. The girls outfit changes on normal too,it's blue instead of white, not sure if it actually did anything though. Wasn't sure how to heal or use items.

Reminded me a little of Legend of Dragoon how you press the buttons to attack and do combos.

            Re: End of Eternity (360/PS3)

Shame this is coming out near FFXIII.

            Eurogamer Hands-on

A closer look, however, reveals a game that revels in unexpected design choices and clever detailing. Take the overworld itself. Resonance of Fate unfolds on a series of stacked maps clinging to that central tower, each new level of the game taking you further up into the sky. The maps themselves are built of clusters of gleaming hexes, giving the world a kind of honeycomb tactical RPG look - yet the most tactical element of the overworld appears to centre around how you progress through it.

At first, almost all of the hexes will be locked, and the only way to unlock new areas is by undertaking various missions. These, along with the game's regular random battles, reward you with differing arrangements of four-hex pieces, a little bit like tetrominoes. You can cash these in by placing them on the map, four hexes at a time, to open up the territory ahead, and the process quickly becomes fairly addictive.

The hex system means that exploration in Resonance of Fate has a pleasant puzzling component.
This is where things get complex. Different weapons have different effects on the enemies. Handguns and grenades will cause direct damage, which slowly chips away at an opponent's health, while machineguns rapidly deal out scratch damage, which races through the health bar at a much faster rate but won't actually harm the enemy unless converted into direct damage. The idea, in other words, is to get in some heavy scratch damage early on in a turn, then transform it into the direct variety with a couple of slower revolver shots before your enemy's gauge has recharged.

On top of that, once the meter along the bottom of the screen starts to fill characters can perform Hero Actions, balletic on-rails manoeuvres in which you use a cursor to draw a straight path on the map for the character to follow, and then move them along the route, shooting as you go, and pulling off elaborately beautiful moves.

Again, there's more to think about than just selecting a channel that will move you past the maximum number of enemies. By choosing a line that sends a team-member in between his two allies, you earn Resonance Points, which allow you to pull off Tri-Attacks.

Deep breath. For Tri-Attacks, the game locks down the starting positions of the three team-members and allows them to jog around from one point of the triangle to the next, pulling off massive damage as they go. It's rounders with ballistic weaponry, essentially, and setting up the perfect triangle formation for a Tri-Attack means that, when you're performing individual Hero Actions, you'll always be keeping an eye on where your team member ends up, as well as how they get there.

It sounds needlessly complicated, but the system is actually fairly easy to get to grips with once there's a controller in your hands, and it's a pleasure to explore. Flipping between team members and switching weapons and items is a seamless process, enemies have clear recharge bars that tell you how close they are to shooting back at you, and by the time the game is throwing in complications like multiple body-parts to take out, over-charge attacks, health gauge-breaking, and Smackdown aerial moves, you'll be more than ready to deal with it all.

The result, aided by some genuinely lovely animation and punchy weapon audio, is something that feels both traditional and fresh: the random battles and general structure of levelling, dungeon-crawling, and item upgrading couldn't be more familiar, but the details always have something new to show you.
Resonance of Fate is rather beautiful, too, its towns riddled with clockwork and red-brick factories, while its overworld's floating arrangements of hexes sit on huge cogs, with massive skyscrapers rising up from them. Characters can be extensively - and insanely - customised, with everything from cat-ear Alice bands to ripped-leather jeans, and the general approach to the art style seems to be mid-nineties boyband with delusions of hard rock credibility and stylings by Liberace. It's not what you'd want to wear on a night out in Colchester, but it's hilarious to mess around with all the same.

The most worrying thing about Resonance of Fate at the moment is that name - a forgettable slice of empty grandeur that may be hard to bring to mind when you're scanning store shelves for something a bit different to play. For a game as intriguing as this to disappear at retail simply because it sounds too much like a dozen other RPGs would be something of a tragedy.

                RPGFan Import Review - 88%

Like Valkyria Chronicles, EoE is likely to be another unappreciated gem from the hedgehog-endorsing publisher, especially considering its release date. While in Japan EoE came out just in time for the late January FFXIII burnout, the March madness North American release is likely to ensure that the game is lost among the Final Fantasy / God of War kerfuffle.

I hope to be wrong about that, since it's a better game than FFXIII. Better graphics? Better music? Better story? No. But it's a better game.

Battle system sounds overly complicated. Before I put a preorder down, have to see which version of the game is better and try out the demo.

                          IGN Impressions

It's quite clear from these opening moments that this JRPG is one that a lot of care went into, even if it has been sitting in the shadow of a giant.
There is the option of heading to an arena where you can learn the ins and outs of the battle system, and it is something you'll most definitely want to do before diving into the combat. Though Resonance of Fate technically makes use of random encounters and turn-based fights, it doesn't feel at all like your traditional Japanese role-playing game. I could explain it here in great detail, but it would occupy the rest of this preview and drag on much farther than anybody probably cares to read. It's a complex system that forces the player to keep shifting positions on the battlefield, charging up shots and dealing out two different forms of damage all at the same time. It's a bit daunting and confusing at first if you don't study up in the arena, but it quickly becomes second nature once you start to learn the basic strategies.

The battle system is just the first unique aspect of Resonance of Fate. The second is the world map, which is laid out in a series of hexagons. Where you can travel is restricted at first based on which hexes have energy, an extension of the story. The world of Resonance of Fate is dying. To survive, mankind created a giant tower run by an AI. This home is called Basel, but it too is falling to pieces under man's stressors. To travel around, people must bring sections of Basel back on board and to do that, you'll have to secure energy hexes and apply them to the world map. Some hexes are colored and will require rarer red, blue or green hexes to activate them. In this way, tri-Ace can show you the entire world at the very beginning, but only allow travel to specific places.
The world and battle system are certainly intriguing, but as we all know an RPG can struggle mightily if it lacks a compelling story and characters. I haven't made it far enough in Resonance of Fate to make a call one way or the other in that regard, but I have been treated to a few hints at a tongue in cheek story.
The visuals of Resonance of Fate so far seem to be a bit of a mixed bag. The generic font doesn't do the minor conversations or menus any favors. The world map looks a bit low-res for my tastes. On the flip side, many of the cutscenes look fantastic and, in a nice touch, will shift their look based on which clothes and accessories you have equipped. The battles themselves are active and engaging and the home town looks wonderful, even if it is a bit small.

It's too early to say whether Resonance of Fate will hold up in the long run, but it firmly has my attention and I'm ready to explore the rest of Basel to find out all of its mysteries.

I had no idea at the ammount of customization this game has. I thought they were just alternate unlockables.

Then there's chapter 5's whackyness. (not really appropriate for posting here)

Might have to buy this one.
