Far Cry 2 Rant

Okay so I just picked this game up on friday, I had extemely high hopes for this game. I love open world enviroments and I thought being in Africa would be awesome with all the scenary, animals and villages. After playing this I dont think I've ever been so fustuated with a non-sports game in my life. Here is what has driven me crazy..

1.Attempting to use stealth-Fail, the enemies see me no matter what I do. Pitch black, low crawling not making a sound. All the sudden gun fire erupts around me. This happens over and over agian.

2.Getting shot at every 5 mins-Its so hard to complete missions because on your way to those missions every mile you drive you get attacked by someone. And the thing is they have awesome accuarcy. Tell me how I can be hit 300 ft away by a SHOTGUN. And a lot of times your not even near the enemy and you have no idea where you are and yet they hit you perfectly.

3.Lackluster story-The enviroment sucks. Nothing to see or do but go through checkpoints and get ambushed. No animals only a few zebras, boring. What is the point of having buddies? They go on no missions with you or do anything.

I had to rant, this game is just horrible. Very boring and fusturating. Drive, drive, drive, get shot, get shot, get shot pretty much it.

I'm definently returning this, should I get uncharted or Fallout 3?

You should have looked at the thread on the game. This was pretty much the consensus of everyone after a few hours.

I tried searching for it but couldnt find it. This game got a lot of good reviews from sites I went too, but after the 2nd mission I just had to stop. This game was more fusturating then dropped passes in NCAA 05.

if you stick it out and upgrade your weapons the people that liked it found it turned out to be a pretty good game after the first few hours. tough at first though and yea stealth is a non factor.

At first I didn't like the game. But I started playing it again a few days ago and really like it now.

Did you buy the stealth suit? It helps a bit. But you really need to keep moving around with the stealth suit on.

Use your map while driving to avoid the checkpoints by sticking close to mountains and the open savanna plains/ sand dunes.

Make sure to do the cell phone assassination missions to make money to buy better weapons.


It isn't the best game in the world, but I appreciated what it was trying to do. I think I like it's single player more than I like games like Call of Duty.


I hope they really learn from this game and make Far Cry 3 really great

I got FC2 from GameFly and couldn't get into it for the reasons you said. I know if you give it 3-5 hours it gets a little better, but I didn't care enough to give it that time.

I got the game for Xmas, couldn't get into it. Going to try getting into it again or just sell it. It's just sat there for like 2 months without me touching it.

I gave up on the game after a few hours, it was driving me nuts. I may go back to it later when its cheaper.

The MP was pretty good in this game. Especially Capture the Diamond Mode. "Protect My Diamonds!"

SP was pretty lame though.

Yeah i was surprised with how good the MP was (low expectations). There are custom user made maps and it's one of the few FPS that i can consistently compete well and don't feel like i'm playing against dudes who play it for 14 hours per day 7 days a week. I guess most of the people who play heaps of FPS online are playing KZ or COD now so this is a good introduction if you are usually terrible at online FPS (like me) and want to get better while still being able to compete.

To the OP your impressions/gripes are all pretty much spot on and when you combine that without a "save anywhere" mechanism this game is only a shadow of what it could have been.

I've put about 10 hours into the single player and while it gets a little better those annoying things still exist and i think i'm going to go back to fallout 3 for my SP hit.

I was really liking it right away. Those first couple hours were great. But then it just went downhill. Hated the story, the checkpoints, the random encounters, the malaria, all of it just became a drag. And why can these dudes in t-shirts takes 15 bullets to the chest before dying?

The game was close, but it just fell short.

This game could have been awesome, But it got weighed down by terrible developer choices.

Here is what I think could have made this game great:
1. Better stealth (Omnipresent AI is the culprit)
2. GTA Style Wanted system, It would actually make checkpoints necessary rather than just shooting you
3. More customization with Weapons ( Just like COD4 but with Diamonds)

Those three thing would have taken a Month extra to make and would have made this game awesome. Too bad really, they really Effed up...
