Although a bit overpriced, I don't think I'll need anything better quality wise than monster cable component cables. I hear that the only thing better is stuff from cable specific companies such as "BetterCables.com" or other mom and pop type of cable companies.

Yeah, it can REALLY get out of hand. I'm not that much of a video nut to jusitify such purchases, but I've met a few (scary people) Maybe they just have a lot more cash than I do.

Okay, I plugged the component cables into the back of the tv, and the other end into the back of the DTV receiver, I can hear it but the pitcher does not come in clear. It's like in black and white. I haven't fooled around with it since I got the new TV but I'd like to have it connected with the component cables.

The xbox was easy, just plug one end of the cables into the tv, and the other end into the lil black box (a/v pack) and connect it to the xbox.

No, I have tried hooking the new TV up to the directv receiver (RCA) with Component Cables but I can't get the picture to come in. I get the static sound and the picture is in black and white like a channel would look if you had it on the wrong channel. Know what I mean? Anyways, I haven't fooled with it in a while I just used the $20 S-Video cable to connect the tv to the receiver.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. Anyway, I wouldn't really worry about the component cables with DirectTV. I'm not really sure it makes that much of a difference anyway with that video source. But always try and use component cables for video gaming and dvding.

I'll assume you own this unit RCA DRD485RG and if that's the case, then I have no clue.

But if that isn't the one or a discontinued HD model, then you have the other RCA's, which are not capable of using component out, becuase they only offer either composite, s-video, or RF out. If that's the case, then that is prob. the reason for the distorted picture and sound. The Y line GREEN of the component cable contains the black and white (sounds like your problem) portions of the picture. If you are running that cable into the Video In (usually YELLOW ) of your DirecTV receiver then you will only get a B & W.
