    Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

New souls-like game that just released yesterday. It's on gamepass and only $50 if you want to buy it outright.

I've been excited for this one since it was originally announced even though I'm not generally a huge fan of this genre. Combat looked a little faster than what I see in these games which was a huge plus.

Despite the price tag, you're not getting a diminished experience. Graphics are solid, especially the animations and flashy skills. Combat feels good, no bugs that I've encountered. There is a fair amount of depth to the skill system.

There is an interesting "madness" mechanic that combines the Red Invader & Corpse mechanic from other games. You build up madness as when you kill human characters. The more madness you have can unlock certain powerful abilities. But also when you hit a certain level, a demon will spawn when you die, and if you die to that demon again when you try to loot your corpse then you lose everything.

It does have some particular similarities to Stellar Blade that I was not expecting that I found more humorous than anything.

I'm not particularly good at these style of games so I have found it pretty punishing, but I have enjoyed it so far.

Here is a pretty good review

After playing a bit of this last night, I now know why I don't play these types of games....lol, it started out as somewhat enjoying it, to frustration quickly setting in, to where I'm almost to the point of uninstalling it, constantly dying and starting from a point further back only to do it again and again does not equal a good time for me.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

Yeah I suck at these games too 😅

Liberal use of the dodge mechanic is highly recommended. The perfect timing for the dodge though is basically right as they are hitting you (similar to Expedition 33's parry). Using your feather powers is also quite nice to attack from range.

I started dying a lot less when I spammed dodge and took things a lot slower. I'm slowly getting a bit better.

Oh yeah, I immediately found where the dodge was, but unfortunately I tend to dodge so much I'm out of stamina and unable to fight back ... and hence a very quick death..

Tried it again a little bit ago, and after dying repeatedly I just uninstalled it. It was not worth the frustration, and I definitely wasn't having fun.

Totally get the frustration. It's one of the reasons why I don't usually like these games.

Really enjoying Wuchang though. It does require more patience than I usually like, but there is still a level of quickness that I do think is better than a lot of FromSoftware games.

The game has been getting good reviews elsewhere, but currently getting killed on Steam due to poor performance. I didn't encounter any bugs or graphical issues, but my pc is pretty high end.

The demon that spawns when you die with high madness is no joke.

Yeah that’s why I won’t even start Souls like games. Too old to go through that frustration now.
