    Trade Used Games at Walmart

This is interesting to say the least.

    Trade Used Games at Walmart

Does it sounds so strange? Not really when you think about it, this is Wal-Mart after all. Most people are unaware at the moment, but Wal-Mart is now accepting used games to trade for credit.

Just a few hours ago, I went to the one near my house and was quite surprised at what I saw. Apparently they had a installed a new vending machine less than a day ago which allows you to trade in your used PS2, PS3, X-Box, 360 and Wii games.

The machine looks extremely similiar to the Redbox DVD rental machines. When I went to use the machine, however, it still had more than a few bugs that need fixing. The first issue occurs right after you login. When logging in, you are asked to scan your games. However once you do so, there is a glitch that logs you out immidiately entering your information. After you log back in, the issue seems to repeats itself.

An additional issue is that it seems that the machine is unable to scan games. I took a few of my games to test it out. Final Fantasy 12, Godfather 2, Mirror's Edge, Ractchet and Clank, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando and Burnout 3: Takedown. However one game, Mirror's Edge, did indeed get scanned but i got a pop-up message which stated that game was not in its database.

In the end, all the bugs and glitches prevented me from trading in any of my games and customer service was closed at the time so I was out on my own. But still, if there is one business out there to give Gamespot some competition, it's the giant Wal-Mart. We'll be writing further on the issue about why we think Wal-Mart has the power to steal Gamestop's limelight in the used game mark

    Well that is certainly interesting.

Funny how the machine didn't work though, lol.

Yeah. I would consider this if the machine worked.

        Interesting.

The other thing is a machine will probably provide better accuracy when seeing if a game is in working condition than a GS employee. lol

I trade in my games at Blockbuster. I save $20 - $30 on madden every year.

I like that there is another option, but I hope they give trade in specials.

As bad as GS is, you can trade in a game towards a preoder and get 10%-20% more on the trade in value, along with the 10% with a edge card if you put it towards a game. Also I would much rather have the money stuck on an edge card then just a WM gift card, my lack of will power would spend it to easily. This is just personall stuff

Interesting. If this takes off, that would be great. Gamestop could use some more competition in this area.

Gamestop could use some people who know what the hell they're doing running their shops.

Walmart has leased store space to third-party automated kiosk company E-play, which has released 77 “Video Game Buyback” stations at select locations, Walmart corporate told Gamasutra on Monday.

The machines are part of a very limited pilot program for Ohio-based E-play -- the kiosks are only found in 2 percent of Walmart’s 3,656 total U.S. stores.

Walmart corporate spokesperson Melissa O’Brien said in an email that E-play owns the machines, which reside in Walmart stores’ vestibule leased space areas.

She said the Walmart machines also carry movie DVDs and video game discs for Wii, Xbox and PlayStation platforms for $1 per day rentals, on top of accepting game discs that customers want to sell.</td></tr></tbody></table>....more...

good. Now with some competition maybe we can get some better deals on trade in's.

Heh, leave it to Wally World to get in one of the blood-suckingest rackets out there. "What, there are huge profits to be had, and we're not in on it?!?!"

nah ...e-play (the company doing the pricing) is keeping them at "industry standard" trade values... ie Madden 09 yields $14.

I might have to try this. My Blockbuster seems to be getting rid of the game rush and the guy this weekend said he didn't know if they were getting UFC in. (I think he was just an idiot, but we will see). If they stop selling most games, I'll have to go back to Gamestop if Walmart doesn't work.
