    Re: Zen Pinball (PSN)

This may sound silly, but playing Zen Pinball, I feel like the game is scripted. I get on a roll and then the ball gets wonky.

For example I hit a ball up one of inclines on the Sorcerers table and it comes back with a normal speed. Then a few minutes later same incline the ball comes down twice as fast making difficult to play it.

It is my first time trying to play a pinball game.

Fishepa hit 241 million I believe on my friends list, which is pretty amazing. I know LingeringRegime seems to hit very high scores on the tables as well. Add those 2 to your friends list as well for more high score competition.

Pinball is great because it can be as simple, or as complicated as you want it to be. If you find the ball moving too fast, shoot it up a ramp and get the ball locked for multiball, or hold a flipper up and catch the ball to completely stop it and aim your shot afterwards.

Once you learn how to control the ball, high scores will be coming your way. For instance on Sorcerers Lair, I can score 1.3million points within the first 5 seconds of the game starting by only using my flipper once.

Launch your ball with only halfway power to start the game and it will reward you 300k points for a skillshot, then as the ball falls down to the table, if you hit it up the left ramp, you are rewarded with 1 million point super skill shot.

Its the little things like this that have kept pinball fun for generations. You can have fun with zero skill, or test your skill by learning all the finer points of each table.

He's saying the ball when coming from the same incline will travel at different speeds..which it shouldn't if the ball is being affected by the same thing each time.

One other way, though it takes some practice to have the nerves to do so - a "dead flipper bounce" where you don't flip on a ball coming down directly at a flipper, instead letting it bounce off of it at an angle, usually slowing it down enough to "trap" it with the other flipper. The physics are good enough in this and Pinball Arcade that it works just as well as it does in real life.

I love pinball because it's about "making your own luck" - obviously you can't predict where the ball is going to bounce or roll every time, but you CAN get it into situations where if you time your flip correctly after a trap, you can usually get the result you're looking for - and that's all about skill. And that's not even going into how each table is unique, with their own ways to score large amounts of points.

Exactly what I was saying. Its like the game overrides its code to make me miss.

I get what you're saying, I just don't really see it. I do know that the physics were improved dramatically from the original Zen Pinball (you can still kind of see it if you play the old tables like Tesla - the ball just rocketed around the table on those).

Which part of the Sorceror table are you saying is causing this? I know there's a lot of things going on underneath the upper playfield that can affect the speed of the ball when it's out of view. If it's the upper playfield giving you trouble I don't know what to say.

Whether you feel like the game is cheating you or not, I'd recommend using one of the stationary cameras if you aren't already - one where you can see the flippers at all times. You might lose some track of what's going on at the back of the table, but that's better than not knowing where the flippers are when the ball comes flying toward them. Square button changes the camera, at least on PS3/Vita and I'd assume it's the same for PS4.

                    Good luck!

Am I the only one that when playing this game, half the time it says I am not online and won't show scores from friends? Happens frequently. Could be because I usually just finished playing (or tried to play) 2K14 and their servers are all wonky I suppose. But at least half the time it says I have to be online for my scores to show against friends.

I think it was a design choice for that table almost like a mystical force affecting the ball. I know the ramp he is talking about and the ball comes down the ramp with force which I also think is tied to how many letters of the word are illuminated. Otherwise the behavior on the other tables seem pretty straight forward but we also need to remember this is not straight forward pinball with all the animations added to the table.

This makes sense if true. I forget this game has a ton of imagination. I can't wait for a table sale.

Ha, it just occurred to me that you all don't have the other tables available to you. I was wondering why nobody was mentioning some of the other greats out there.
