    LEGO Indiana Jones 2

    First Details

IGN: To start, can you give us some insight into what you feel LEGO Indiana Jones 2 represents for those who've been playing the LEGO series for a while, meaning is the style of action and the overall setup similar to titles past, as well as what it offers newcomers?

Kellam Eanes: LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues is Indy's greatest adventure yet. Foes from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the Original Adventures team up against him for a spectacular action adventure. We're bringing back the aspects of LEGO game play that fans love –drop-in/drop-out co-op, puzzle solving, character swapping, and free-play abilities. In LEGO Indy 2, we're introducing an entirely new builder feature, allowing for user-created content for the first time ever in a LEGO game. LEGO Indy 2 will feature innovative re-tellings of the classic Original Triolgy encounters, new brawl and vehicle levels, and the most authentic LEGO experience you can have in a game – creating an adventure of your own.

IGN: What about the sort of content the game is going to cover?

Kellam Eanes: The game play will be structured around six large level "Hubs," which will be levels unto themselves. Think Barnett College (LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures) and the Cantina (LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga) Hubs blown out to a larger, more interactive scale. For instance, for the Raiders of the Lost Ark Hub, you'll be able to fly a plane, swim around islands, or ride a boat within the Hub itself. There are five levels within each of the six Hubs.
IGN: We understand there will be some new functionality in the game for Indy's whip. Can you go over what this means for players and what new types of moves and control it allows for?

Kellam Eanes: With a new and improved whip, Indy will now have the ability to whip enemies over to him, tie them up, throw them over his shoulder, and even use them as tools to activate levers. You can also now use the whip in tandem with another character to trip enemies.

IGN: One of the most interesting features of this title is the option to build and play your own stages. How does this system work, and can you touch on specifics like how big a stage you might be able to build, what kinds of LEGO blocks and special pieces you can use, as well as what you can do with a stage after you're done building it?

Kellam Eanes: The Builder allows you to create your own levels, tombs, challenges, or more simply just fun sandbox areas. For example, you can lay down road base plates, add traps that are activated by levers, and add in your own unique environmental features. You'll be able to save your game when you're finished to enjoy over and over again.

IGN: Can you save multiple custom stages, and is there any way to share them with others?

Kellam Eanes: Once you've created your own level in the Builder mode, the fun continues in Build Your Own Adventure Mode where the possibilities of creating your own world-spanning quests are endless. You can pull all of the levels you've created and combine them to create your very own adventure. From an archeological dig in Egypt to exploring the jungles of South America BYOA allows you to create your very own LEGO Indiana Jones adventure.

Total BS on this one imo.......I am in disbelief with this company, this should have been a part of the original release.

      Re: LEGO Indiana Jones 2

We've got all three Lego games as my son loves them and I also play with him at times. I personally liked Lego Indy the best and part of that was the movie tie-ins. This kind of feels like a rip-off just to make more money. I'm not sure about this one but the LBP activity builder does sound interesting. I'm curious to find out more about this.

Well this game comes out tomorrow. I'll get it when it goes on sale for my son as a Christmas gift.

This is a pretty weak review but I can't read any good ones at work.

I sold the first one for $20 on ebay a couple weeks ago. I'll pick this one up after Christmas.

Pretty good review on this game. A sale starts tomorrow at TRU in Canada ($10 off any game) so we'll get it for my son as a Christmas gift.

                Re: LEGO Indiana Jones 2

My 5 year old son got this for Christmas and it's more of the same with a few new and mostly good twists. I personally think the original Lego Indiana Jones was the best of all the Lego games so far. They all have a similar flavour to them so if you are sick of these games which are largely easy combined with a few frustrating puzzles once in awhile you should probably avoid it. If you like the Lego games and like Indy then definitely pick it up.

The original game had all three movies with 6 chapters to each one. I loved the music and the Indy character and it was well done. The new game is set up a little differently. The museum hub has been replaced by a warehouse and the overall interface is setup like an extra board rather than a menu system. I'll explain in a bit. There seem to be quite a few levels to choose from but most are locked initially. All three original movies are back in the game with unique boards and the fourth movie, the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is also represented by multiple levels. Each level is a crate in the warehouse that you choose to unlock. When you choose one though, you enter a new "base world" that represents that movie. You can walk around, explore, fight some guys, build some puzzles and buy characters and vehicles (so smashing stuff for money is useful). I do like this new freedom. It's certainly not an open sandbox environment but a nice small addition to the game. As you come to a house or small puzzle, you can then enter that house which represents a chapter in that level. A green arrow will indicate which "chapter" is available while yellow or orange arrows indicate chapters that you can't complete yet due to not having a necessary character. Once you start a chapter it is very similar to before.

There are some new mechanics in the game. They have a targeting system, sort of like Lego Batman, that allows you to be more accurate with the whip or throwing objects. This is better but I'm not really sure how necessary it is. It adds a small complication to a simple game. I know there were frustrations with the first game when trying to throw a banana to a monkey and missing. This certainly fixes that. Indy can drag people around with his whip pretty easy although you might not find this amusing if your son thinks it's hilarious to drag you around in co-op. Also, the original Indy game never had any racing levels. This game does and they are fun. Most of the two or three I've done all center around smashing the bad guys with a vehicle you are in but one also involved throwing dynamite from a rickshaw. There are some jumps as well that keep it entertaining along with smashing a ton of stuff. And you aren't limited to staying in your car. You can get out and smash stuff on foot or highjack different vehicles. I probably enjoy the driving levels in this game more than the other lego games.

There is also a level creator. I haven't tried this yet but one reason is they lock down your options until you complete more stuff. I think they should have opened this up from the beginning. And I don't think you can share created levels online like LBP which I personally think is a big omission. I'm probably too lazy to build any levels but I would have liked to try other people's creations. There is a demo out for people to play. I haven't tried it though so I have no clue on that.

One of the best parts of the original Lego Indy game was going back and completing boards with freeplay. So many characters were needed to access hidden areas and tricks that it made it fun. I don't know if the new game will feature as many cool secondary things in a level but I hope so. You do get a "been there, done that" feeling as there is nothing revolutionary about yet another Lego video game and this is the 4th for me. I'll post more as I play more but so far this game has been fun.
