Bungie’s just announced at the MS E3 press conference that Firefight, the multiplayer mode that debuted in Halo 3: ODST last year, wil be included in Reach.

I figured this was going to be the case, but still is great news to here it's official. Hopefully they have matchmaking for it this time.

Yeah hopefully, Bungie is slated to show the game tomorrow, so I think we'll find out.

Thanks Flawless, been searching for that quality all day.

One of the things that I think Bungie wanted (and other people as well), was to make it fell like you were actually in a real, gritty war, and in that demo, they nail it.

Oh, and I posted earlier a website saying that Bungie confirmed Firefight for Reach today. Apparently thats not true: http://twitter.com/bungietweets

I'm still confident that firefight is in the game though, and will possibly be announced tomorrow.

In 4 player co-op everybody will get to fly their own Sabre in that space combat sequence.

Once the team fought its way into the UNSC base, it was on to the Saber for some in flight entertainment. This new vehicle is a multi-stage rocket that brings your Spartan up into orbit above Reach. If you play four player co-op, all team members will get their own Saber to pilot for a gigantic space battle.

This is where the public E3 demo ended, but my private demo continued. Bungie went on to show full space combat, Sabers against first Banshees and then the more sturdy Seraphs. It looked epic.

The Spartans job here is to defend the Anchor base, which is already in shambles. Banshees go down quickly with some machine gun fire and the shields on the Saber seemed more than capable of absorbing a few shots (The heads-up display shows both shield and hull strength, as well as thruster heat). If not, the Saber can also do quick 180 degree flips, barrel rolls, and side dodges. As the battle raged, I noticed that some of the scrap floating around could be bumped and blasted to start it moving -- the battlefield looks like it will slightly evolve as things progress.

Once the Seraphs arrived, it was time to break out the big guns. Sabers also have missiles that can lock onto enemy ships and then tear them to bits. I'm sure you're thinking what I am right now. These Sabers could be awesome in competitive multiplayer. Unfortunately, Bungie wouldn't talk about any possible new competitive modes these vehicles could be included in.

Bungie and Microsoft are holding a special evening event for Halo: Reach tonight. Expect more from IGN when we get back from that.

Sounds like they will demo the same section from the press conference, but show more of the space combat, then something else whenever this event takes place later.
