The Passing includes more than one new game mode

DLC delayed and priced.

A video broadcast to U.K. Xbox Live subscribers confirms suspicions that Left 4 Dead 2's "The Passing" DLC won't be available by March 31, with the date moved to a more vague "Spring." But it will cost 560 Microsoft points.

Left 4 Dead 2's The Passing Introduces Weekly Game "Mutations"

It's official: Left 4 Dead 2's The Passing will be out on Thursday, April 22 for the Xbox 360 and PC, and it's much more than a new episode, new infected, and a couple of new weapons. According to Valve, The Passing will also include a brand new way to play the game that'll keep players coming back every week for more.

"Mutations," are a series of new game types that Valve will be cycling in and out of the game on a weekly basis. There are more than 20 different "Mutations" planned, including the aforementioned "Chainsaw Massacre," which arms players with chainsaws and an unlimited supply of gasoline.

Now that's my kind of zombie slaughter right there.

All new game modes will be playable on any of Left 4 Dead 2 campaigns, and will be exclusive to players that have purchased The Passing downloadable content.

Purchased being a relative term, of course. Xbox 360 players can expect to pay 560 Microsoft points ($7) for The Passing, while PC players can purchase it for completely free, which I suppose doesn't count as purchasing it at all.

lol at that pic jmood, I actually just came upon it my first playthrough of the Passing.

Speaking of which, here's some thoughts about the Passing but in spoiler tags because there are a few things that could be spoiled. I spent most of the night watching the draft so only got a chance to get one play through on the Passing.

The Passing campaign is three sections long but it's a robust three sections. It took my team 37 minutes to complete on normal, which is nice considering most of the regular campaigns from the original L4D took about 45 minutes on normal.

The Passing takes place at night and has you twisting and turning through the streets, tunnels and buildings. So many open places to get unexpectedly pounced, smoked, spit on, etc. that I kind of think it's similar in feel to Crash Course, the DLC from the original. Difference is there's lot of elevation changes, going to the third story of a building and all the way into the sewers.

The third section is the finale and it's a nice change of pace compared to bunkering down and fighting a massive horde. It is essentially scavenge mode, or for those not familiar with that, a similar finale to that of Dead Center. But there is a catch, oh yes, there is a catch.

Remember Valve promising to integrate the old L4D characters? They did. Three of them are the finale sitting on the balcony of building in the middle of the area and they help shoot zombies for you! I know this is in spoiler tags but, *spoiler alert* the three are Louis, Zoey and Francis. Our old friend Bill did not make it. In fact if you look in the area in one of the buildings you can see Bill's dead zombie body (from what I was told, I didn't see it personally because I was busy trying to stay alive - the final section is difficult).

I liked the Passing campaign a lot and I'm looking forward to doing scavenge mode on its finale. In addition to the Passing campaign you get new weapons (M60, golf club), new items (foot crates will loads of items, always one of each whether it's bombs or pills), new dialogue (walking through the sewer Rochelle asks Nick if he wants a splash fight lol), the mutation mode (a new different game type every week) and new achievements. All in all it seems to be very much worth the 560 MS points for us 360 users, and definitely a no-brainer free download on PC.
