    First Bit of news:

Rock Band 3 Won't Be Just a Rhythm Game

Don't expect the next Rock Band to be a rehashed title with an updated set list. It appears Harmonix is hard at work on reinventing the music game genre.

Dhani Harrison, son of Beatles legend George Harrison and developer on The Beatles: Rock Band, told the Chicago Tribune new details on the still unannounced Rock Band 3 project.

Harrison, who still works with developer Harmonix, said he's creating new musical controllers that will actually teach players the fundamentals of playing real-life instruments for the next Rock Band title.

"I'm working on 'Rock Band 3' and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game," he said.

Harrison would add, however, gamers might not see the next proper Rock Band installment for quite some time.

"Give me a couple years, it's going to happen."

MTV Games general manager Scott Guthrie hinted at big changes for the series in a recent interview, saying the next Rock Band title could even incorporate Project Natal motion technology.

"We aren't standing still – we will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft," said Guthrie.

Problem is, will this deter from the previous Rock Band songs, as well as all DLC, being playable on the RB3 disc?

I'm sure harmonix will make everything compatible.

I'm excited to see what they do, I feel like new instruments that work a bit differently could reinvigorate the music game genre, and then neversoft will take the new mechanics and instruments and release 15 games a year of course.

Wow, interesting news to say the least. I'm bummed though if it's really going to be a couple years.

Well I guess you can have the Lego RB's, Guitar and Band Hero's to hold you over.......even though I know you dislike Neversoft's direction. I hope by Fall 10 we get RB3........that would suck if this was a few years away.

RB 3 will be out next year,he's just saying the controllers will be where he wants them in a couple of years. I'm guessing HMX has the sense to make this like an expert + mode in GH and not force it on people. I'm not buying another guitar for the 360 short of it being something amazing looking.

I hope we get RB3 sometime next year because I just can't stand GH for some reason. They had some great features in GH5 but the gameplay is just not any fun to me. Reading charts on that game is just a chore I feel like I'm just watching a wall of skittles.

Lol I did all 5... its just for some reason I prefer the look of RB's charts. I'm not saying GH are bad games I just don't like them personally. I always do better on the RB versions of songs even if they are charted similarly. Maybe I just suck at GH games Lol.

Ha, I am a huge fan of the rectangles!

But really, the GH charts are just more awkward to play. I remember I started on GHIII, the first Neversoft game, and then played GH2, the last GH made by Harmonix. It felt more natural. I think it still feels that way, but nothing is more unnatural than the GHIII charts. Yeesh.

Yup GH III was pretty terrible there and GH 80's was the last one made by HMX.
