    Call of Duty Series

Guys, I'm late to the party, very late, but nonetheless, I just played the demo for COD: World at War last night for the first time on PS3 and loved it!!! I enjoyed it so much it got me thinking what I've been missing out on. That's the first time I've ever played a COD game. I wanted to know if I should play the series from the original on PS2 and work my way through or should I start with COD 3 on PS3??? Is this a game that you need to play through the series like MSG or no?

I would start with call of duty 2. I know you can't play it for PS3 but If you can find a way do it. I wouldn't bother with the ps2 games like big red one or finest hour. I actually enjoyed 3 better than world at war, but you can't really go wrong with either game. As far as the games being related story wise, there really isn't much you would miss if you skipped one.

My first COD experience was Modern Warfare, but I only played the single player campaign. I really liked it. My first online experience was with World at War and I still play it a bunch. If I was you, depending on how much free time you have I'd start with Modern Warfare for PS3, especially if you plan on getting Modern Warfare 2 when it comes out in November. I wouldn't even mess with W@W unless you really don't like modern warfare. Modern Warfare's single player campaign is more fun than W@W's, but I prefer W@W's online, but I believe I am in the minority on that front. Anyways, just have fun and try not to get too addicted.

The only two I have played are Modern Warfare and World at War.

        I'm addicted to both.

Ditto! Although I enjoyed the single player campaign for Modern Warfare MUCH more then World at War. Both are tons of fun online... but if you jump on just don't get discouraged when you get totally SMOKED in the begining. It's tough because there is no real ranking system, so pretty much everyone else is all leveled up and more importantly has played the game to death.

You don't need to start from the beginning for storylines or anything, but you'll cover more battles of WW2 if you do.
Try and get your hands on CoD 1 and it's expansion (United Offensive) if you can on the PC... Or maybe you can wait for the downloadable XBL/PSN versions coming soon? There are levels in both games that are inspired by the battles shown on Band of Brothers. Careful though, the PS2 version of the game is totally different in terms of storyline. It's not as good.

I think CoD 2 is the first game in the series to introduce the Halo health regeneration, so heads up on that if you try the first.

I started this series with CoD2 for the 360. Really enjoyed it.

I found CoD3 to be lacking something. Not sure what, but I wasn't enjoying the game. Never finished it because I was just not having fun with it.

CoD4 totally blew me away. Fantastic single-player and my favorite multiplayer to date.

CoD: WaW, much like CoD3, didn't really do it for me. The game borrowed way too much from CoD4. Some levels and scenarios from the single-player just seemed like carbon copies from CoD4. Multiplayer is fun though, basically CoD4 set in WWII.

I guess it breaks down to if the game is developed by Infinity Ward, I enjoy it. If by Treyarch? Not so much.

Call of Duty 2(PS3, 360) and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare are the two games you should play. I wouldn't touch anything that was made by Treyarch.

Since he loved the WaW demo,he might like the game.

In many ways WaW is better than MW;less grenade spam, less spawn camping
and many more maps.Stat tracking is better, there are more 2XP weekends, etc.Treyarch supports their game more than IW,who only delivered one map pack.

World at War rules. Just start with that. There is no reason to play the older ones. The multiplayer is where its at anyway. I still havent bothered to finish the single player.
