It wasn't so much this game that I got it for, but for Link Between Worlds (plus a few others) next month. Definitely not regretting the purchase.

Just picked up a 3DS and Y this weekend. So worth it. I've played about 10 hours, and only have 2 badges, but I have caught about 50 Pokemon so far. This game has to have the most variety of wild Pokemon in one area I've ever seen.

Team right now looks like this:

Lvl 32 Braixen
Lvl 31 Floette
Lvl 29 Honedge
Lvl 25 Tyrunt
Lvl 30 Pancham
Lvl 32 Venasaur

But this team has been pretty fluid throughout the game. I have a Riolu, Budew, Pidgeotto, Hawlucha, Bagon, and Sandile that have all seen significant party time throughout. I just caught a couple Eevees, figure I should get a ton of them as early as I can, since there is so many Eevee-lutions nowadays.

I'm away from my 3DS right now, but I'll post my FC in here soon. But I'm with whoever said it earlier, we need to make a post in here with all the FC codes

I know it's been said before, but the Exp. Share renovation was genius. Makes it so much easier to have a diverse mix of multiple usable Pokemon all within relevant levels. Instead of the old days where you just battled with 5-6 main Pokemon, (some people had less and just carried useless low levels for HM duty) and the rest of your Pokemon pretty much sat in the PC, or Day care not seeing action.

For instance I've been focusing on leveling up a Budew, and Azurill, to eventually evolve by happiness; and my Froakie, and Fletchling evolved without me even needing to battle with them much at all.

Also yeah I can see experienced guys wanting to go through a 2nd play through turning Exp. Share OFF for a slight challenge.

And agreed 100% about exp share being genius, I'm loving that it keeps my party balanced and avoids me having to run around grinding for long periods of time

Yeah, totally agree on the exp share thing. The one thing it has done for me this gen (compared to ALL other pokemon games) is that I have a much more fluid team and enjoy using Pokemon I'd rarely give a shot. Quite enjoyable on that front.

EDIT: Okay. On the topic of shinies.

Chain Fishing gives an increased chance. By chain fishing, I mean casting your rod and getting a bite. It doesn't matter what the Pokemon on the end is. If you cast and get a bite and catch/kill (someone said running works, but I don't know that as it didn't in the other chains) that Pokemon it adds to the chain. I was around chain #46 or so, and caught a shiny Basculin. Sadly, it used take down and offed itself. Anything interrupting that chain (no bites, reeling in too early with no PKMN, etc.) resets the chain.

The Friend Safari may have increased odds of shinies. I can't say whether or not it does (nobody can, the 3DS isn't hacked like the DS was.) I hopped into one this morning that I didn't check out before to see what Pokemon are in there, and my 2nd random encounter was a shiny Kakuna. I caught that one. That being said, that's the first shiny I've seen from the Friend Safaris... so it may or may not be true that the rates there are a bit higher. I'm willing to guess that they are slightly higher in there. Still nothing crazy, as that is the first shiny I've seen personally in the FS.

How far until you get you bike after the town with the fossil restore place? Also how much faster is it compared to the roller skates? Hatching pokemon with the skates as of right now.

I played red on my fat Game Boy back in elementary/middle school. Played yellow a bit, too, but I don't think I beat it. I beat red, though I was derailed in my quest for all 150 Pokemon when my friend corrupted my game.

I have a couple of friends who still play red/blue on an emulator.

I collected the cards back around that time, too. I still have Charizard, Megasaur, and Blastoise... I wonder if my collection will be worth anything someday.

How ironic this is now, lol.

It should be the town after that one (I think) and it's noticeably faster IMO.

So I just found an emulator for my phone, and I'm going to play Emerald for the first time.

Good stuff, I sunk a lot of time in that game. There's a battle tournament type arena post-game that really caters towards the competitive type battlers; and Hoenn was one of the underrated regions, really had a lot of fun exploring in that one.

Just got a shiny Whiscash with this method. Took maybe 2 minutes. Its great for me since Whiscash's shiny sprite is hardly different that the regular....I did get a wild Politoed though. That made the whole thing worth it haha.
