    Re: The Pokemon Thread

Well last night I traded away about 90 charmander through wonder trade. I kept around 40-50 that if got back due to not having them, I even got Pokerus! I got some pretty good stuff. Some Dragon types, Ice types, even some original pokemon I didn't have like Graveler(Which evolved), ghastly, a few Eevees and some Giant tree thing.

You can actually do traditional EV training in about the same amount of time. Found a guide online, tried it and fully trained a Chesnaught in about 30 minutes.

Basically you need: pokerus, the power items, an oddish or any pokemon with sweet scent, exp share on, and a pokemon with a multi-target attack.

You infect the pokemon you're training with pokerus and equip it with the power item of the EV you want to train. Then go to a route that the guide specifies for the EV you want (example: for my Chesnaught I went to Route 14 and Route 5.) Then that Oddish you caught comes into play; use sweet scent to start a horde battle and hope it's the right pokemon. With exp share turned on, have the multi-attack pokemon wipe out the horde. With all the things listed above you get 5 EVs with no item or pokerus, plus 20 more for having the power item equipped, and 25 more for pokerus or...50 EVs from one horde battle. Repeat 5 times to get to 250, then unequip the power item and find another horde. Kill one pokemon and run away. That last pokemon gives you the 2 final EVs (if you have pokerus, if not kill 2) you need to max out at the cap of 252.

Repeat for your second EV and then for the last 4 points you could super train or whatever.

EDIT: and Kobalt posted the exact same thing a couple posts above me.

Strategy Guide should be here today.. I paid a little extra for expedited shipping because I was using a gift card. I couldn't find one at Gamestop. The guy said, "We may have one in the back". I waited for a few minutes and the guy just kept tagging games and then said "**** it.. nevermind".. lol.

I didn't make a special trip for it.. just thought I would check while I was in town.

Finally got my hands on a Bulbasaur. Those things are gone the instant they hit the GTS with a reasonable request back. Now I have all 6 of the starters in the game, and have a Japanese version of all of them but Bulbasaur as well. That one will probably be a pain to get unless I get lucky and one pops up on Wonder Trade.

Edit: Got lucky and nabbed that Japanese Bulbasaur as well!

I've found something to do to kill some time and help with my boredom.

I've been going through the guide route by route checking off Pokemon to make sure I have caught everything possible. I'm not too far through the guide yet, but all ready found a few I missed because I didn't have certain abilities early on in the game.

Still wish there was more story.

I'm also tired of looking through the GTS and every single person listing Yvetal, Mewtwo, and Zygarde as the Pokemon they want in return. That **** shouldn't be allowed.

I know someone's going to bite on some of them eventually, but it's annoying.

That setting you can change gets rid of a bunch of those.

Has anyone tried that chain fishing? I got all the way up to 87 earlier and still didn't get a shiny. Super frustrating, but that's my luck.

                  Re: The Pokemon Thread

I loved the Pokemon series, and played every generation, up until Diamond and Pearl.

It's just way too many pokemon now, I feel like the battle strategy is falling apart because you have to prepare for so many things.

Plus I can't memorize 800 pokemon quite like I could memorize 300 back in the day.
Honestly even after Ruby/Sapphire/FireRed/LeafGreen... I felt like they should have stopped adding new Pokemon then. More isn't better. I wish they instead refined the gameplay or updated some things, improve on some pokemon, etc...

Anyway, so I don't play pokemon anymore because it's just too much to keep track of for me.

Have you played(or at least read up on) the new ones since Diamond and Pearl? The game has gotten pretty deep actually. At least when you talk competitively. I dont remember every single pokemon either but that doesnt bother me much. Having such a large pool of pokemon is great, even though only a couple OP ones get used competitively.

They have done that in the latest versions, tons of functional improvements. Overhauled graphics, more battle animations, changes to Exp. Share that gives every Pokemon in your party Exp. Easier to navigate menus, and sort items.. plus a bunch more.

but yeah I hear what you're saying it's so hard to keep track of 800+ Pokemon. Sometimes a Pokemon will pop up and I'll be like "What the heck is this thing" and after looking it up I'll realize it was from the last generation, or Diamond/Pearl era.

I'd still say if you were ever a fan at one point and have a 3DS or plan on getting one, try this game for sure. I instantly got back into the series, after not having played for years I'm still catching up, but it doesn't take too long to get a basic bearing of things. (by that I mean enough knowledge to finish the game efficiently... if you want to be an uber competitive battler that's a whole different story. You are going to have to put in a lot more work studying up on changes etc.)

You guys are kinda misunderstanding me I think. I love the gameplay already. I don't think it needs changes, not in the past, and not now. I was saying that instead of adding new Pokemon, they should have ONLY changed the gameplay. Adding new Pokemon is not an improvement to me, it is only a step backwards.

Understanding all the Pokemon and how to deal with them is part of what made battling fun, but when there's 700+, that makes it a lot less fun and a lot more like homework. Plus when your team only has 6 pokemon, there's a literal and definite limit on the number of pokemon you can actually be prepared against, so exceeding that limit takes away from the strategy of it.

And yeah I used to play competitively and online and everything... I don't know how many other people here did that so maybe I'm in the minority lol.

Man I remember I used to spend DAYS trying to breed things... I am so OCD about the stats and DVs (I think they are called IVs now? whatever) values and such... When I was breeding Vaporeon with Wish, I went through like 300 Vaporeons because I couldn't get one to hatch with a high enough HP...

Well I wonder traded about 120 or so of my Charmanders and got 120 more eggs in my PC now. Going to hatch them when I get home. I'll be up to 920 charmander after this. Took a little break from it the last couple of days due to frustration. Lol. According to my Odds I should have a shiny in the next 500 of so eggs but we will see about that.

Btw I heard of a work around to get a foreign species of any pokemon, not sure if it works though as I have not tried it yet. You basically change you region on you DS settings and catch say a Ditto. You then trade it to a friend then go back and change you region back. You then trade again afterwards for the same pokemon you just traded and it's region should stay what it was when you first traded it away.
