Your Most Recently Purchased Non-Sports Game?

I was just thinking about this to myself. I'm going to buy Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition on the 13th, and realized that I haven't bought a non-sports game since Unreal Tournament 3 came out.

I also bought Rock Band 2, but I can't remember if it was released more recently than UT3.

Anyway, what was the last non-sports game you bought?

I'll give you two...one I bought for me, and the other for my 7 year old.

Batman Asylum...and SW:Clones of the Republic (or something) for my kid. I like 'em both.

I've bought more non-sports games than sports games the last 2 years. That has never happened in my life. With a few exceptions sports gaming is seriously lacking in overall quality and innovation from sequel to sequel.

For the first year ever I will most likely pass on an NBA game and a college basketball game.

Meanwhile, I have so many non-sports games on my radar I'm having trouble keeping release dates straight.

Most games I buy aren't sports games - the latest non SNES/NES game that I bought was Risen. A great RPG so far that I believe has a single post here with maybe 5 replies and appears to be pretty much ignored.

Re: Your Most Recently Purchased Non-Sports Game?

I'm usually strictly a sports gamer, but with the lack of progress and over-promise under-deliver nature -- just take a glimpse at the Madden thread section -- I've started turning my attention to the non-sports gaming genre. Bought Batman AA which I'm severely digging and just the other day got Uncharted to catch up on the story thanks to some generous recommendations in these threads.

As a bonus, doesn't seem to be all the bickering and nitpicking in these threads as it is in the sports sections...definitely a welcomed change!

Re: Your Most Recently Purchased Non-Sports Game?

I too am coming down on sports games lately. I just haven't had anything really capture me in a long time. I'm dying to try The Show, but I only have 360. I'm considering getting a PS3 just for the new version when it comes out, but I know the wife will be none too happy if I do that.

With that said my last truly non-sports game was Rock Band 2.

I also recently bought Grid. Yes, I know it's a racing game, so it's technically sports..but the point is I would usually never buy a racing game as that isn't really my thing. I remember reading good things about it though, and I had about 25 dollars in credit on an Edge card burning a hole in my pocket so I picked up a used copy for practically free. I've been loving this game. Sim racing fans might scoff at it and maybe that's the point. Every sim racing game I've tried has bored me to no end. This includes earlier versions of Gran Turismo as well as Forza. I have no interest in tuning my car ad nauseum, nor do I want to sit there and have to run through a qualifying lap before I race. I just want to get in there and trade paint for a few laps. This is why I am loving Grid. Non-sim baseball and football heads probably feel the same way when they play Madden or 2k baseball, and that's why they can get a lot of enjoyment out of it without being bothered by the faults of the game as far as simulating the real sport.

Anyway, I'm planning on checking out some more non-sports games. I recently rented Batman AA and will probably purchase that to get through it as it was a great game. There are so many good looking games out there that I have missed over the years because I was too tied up in the yearly sports offerings.

I'm also about to get that Williams Pinball game. I'm old school, and I've been reading really good things about it..mostly on this very forum.

Demo was horrible and it's getting bad reviews.

Try Tornado Outbreak. I was misled (thought it'd be more Katamari like and less Disney summer movie) but it's still pretty decent and should be good for kids.

A gamer who only plays sports games is like a movie buff who only watches sports movies. If you're not taking the time to play stuff like Killzone 2, Dead Space, BioShock, Oblivion, Metal Gear, and whatever else, you're missing out on the best games this gen.

Last non-sports game I bought was the original Uncharted ($27).
