I really wish there were two separate categories:

Uncharted 2, for me, would undoubtedly be single player game of the year.

Modern Warfare 2 would be the multiplayer/online game of the year.

Uncharted 2 has some absolutely fantastic moments (train sequence and the truck sequences in particular) but a lot of meh moments (first quarter of the game, ice cave) and the game feels like it's on rails sometimes - moreso than it should. The train sequence in particular was an amazing achievement though. Beautiful game but suffers a little being a sequel for me.

I'm still really early in Modern Warfare 2 and like it so far, but suffers a little from being a sequel. And a reportedly short campaign mode and vague storyline.

For me Batman's still GOTY for now; really makes the player feel like you're Batman. Great graphics, terrific voice acting and story, killer (and innovative) combat mechanic, very good DLC, atmospheric... Detective mode was a little overly powerful but otherwise a huge surprise and great game

I've purchased 5 games this year (COD, Madden/NCAA, MLB 2k9, UFC: Undisputed) and of those, it's Call of Duty as a no-brainer.

However, I did ask for Batman: AA for X-Mas so assuming I get that, I hope it's every bit as good as advertised.

I haven't played MW2, so my vote will go to either Uncharted 2 (simply spectacular) or MLB The Show (which should be listed, IMHO).

I hope we get a football game that deserves to be on a list like this again sometime before I die.
