Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I am 36 and thought I would have outgrown it by now but hasn't happened yet. Perhaps you need a change.

I do feel the slowing down of playing sports games, played them for many years with minute changes to the actual game play has made it very boring. However, other genres have emerged that I never used to play, RPG and 3rd person action, they have supplemented the time I used to play with sports games. As those grow repetitive something else will emerge.

I definitely am not even close to outgrowing gaming, but unfortunately my wishes for playing games eight hours a day have come to an end.

Nah im not really an online fiend at all. I only liked playing Co-op games online for the most part like 16 player vs CPU FPS...which is rare nowadays

I think I had fun playing some team matches with Sully and some others on here in GR2 and R6 Vegas... but that was it.

Other than that im not a huge online fan. I tried DL Little big planet, but it didnt hold me.

Some of the PS3 Dl games like Pain, pinball, Ragdoll Kung fu, none of that stuff is fun for long.

It seems like after initial hype nowadays not alot of games have lasting appeal.

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I am 30 now, and play games more now that I have since Sega Genesis. As other people as mentioned, I rarely go to the bars anymore, which is all I did when I was in my early 20's. I would much rather stay at home on a Friday night and play some games then go to a crowded bar or club.

Another reason is I play more different types of games now. I used to only play sports games with the occasional action/adventure mixed in. Nowadays I play other games most of the time with the occasional sports game mixed in. Plus the fact that I only started playing online about 20 months ago, and I love it.

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I think I am startring to hit a wall. I am typically a sports gamer for the most part and now a days, in my opinion buying a sports videogame is a waste of money. Most other games I will play for a minute and then lose interest quickly.

The last games where I played on a consistent basis were the GTA games.

I used to log hours playing madden, espn 2k, nba 2k, choops, all star baseball and then MLB2k. now it just seems like a big waste of my time and they give me more frustration than happiness. Not to mention all of the lies and gimmicks coming out of most of these game reviews and developer blogs, etc. Its all just a hustle in the end.

I still lurk though, I think i look for more cinematic games now a days as I get older. Games like Alan Wake, Mafia 2, etc are what Im looking most for.

Sounds like MGS 4 and the Heavy Rain title will be up your alley

I don't think I will ever outgrow gaming. I love football games too much. I still can play for hours in practice mode in NCAA 2004, 2k5, and APF.

You should also be logging hours into Uncharted 2. If you feel you're hitting a wall, you owe it to yourself to play that game on your PS3.

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I outgrew gaming once, a few years ago, and realized that I couldn't afford to do that. Games just felt like a waste of time where I was getting nothing accomplished, and I was way too caught up in trying to work on my career to enjoy games at all.

This was a bad development for me though. Games handle the same exact subject matter I have to deal with in my career. It's not in my best interests to get quite so "adult" with my tastes. So I turned it around and started tying games and my career into one another. I have a writer friend who was in a similar position and he feels the same way. So now games have become more than just recreation. They're also a way to energize my imagination.

I know that's a unique situation to be in, but I think everyone could benefit from the basic idea: don't let the energy you get from gaming end when you turn your system off. Use that energy to do other productive things. Getting excited about something--anything--is a great sign that you aren't becoming apathetic about life.

thanks for the heads up on that Heavy Rain. I just went to Gametrailers and it looks pretty freaking amazing. I seriously need to work on getting a PS 3. The show and a few of these other titles may just be enough.
