I'm hoping RDR bring me back in. Because I can't game for anything lately. Wife and new child, demanding job have a lot to do with it, but when I'm off I really don't have a lot of desire to boot up the PS3.

I'm glad I have it, but I haven't fired it up in 2 weeks. I will not be getting rid of it. We've been using the BD player. But I just haven't had time to play. My wife gave me the go-ahead to go and buy RDR tonight, she said it sounds like a lot of fun. But I just have a hard time justifying it, since my time to play is dwindling. And $60 is 2 cans of formula and a box of diapers. lol

Understandable. I'll tell you this though... you will make time for Red Dead, trust me.

I've outgrown sports games to be sure. This was the first year I didn't get NCAA on day 1, I didn't buy it until late August and I've only played it around 5 times. I did buy The Show but thats still in the shrinkwrap.

These days I'd rather play a good RPG or FPS than a sports game.

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

Copy and paste of an earlier post of mine because I think it's happening to me.

I had planned to get quite a few games, Final Fantasy, Uncharted, GoW3, etc. but the only game I've gotten so far is Mass Effect 2 (wait, I bought Shadow Complex on XBL which I loved but never finished) and it took me nearly 2 months to finish. I very rarely turn on my 360 these days and discontinued XBL service. When I tun on my PS3 it's either to watch a movie I have on my computer's hard drive or watch a Netflix movie. The only game I have for my PS3 is MGS4, and I got that last year for free from Steve. MGS is in my top two of all time favorite series (along with Mass Effect) and I never finished it.

There have been a lot of games I think would be interesting to play but lately when it comes down to it, the motivation just isn't there. It almost seems like a chore for me to start up a game these days. I'll think about playing games all the time, I just, don't. RDR looks good, and for the past couple of days I've been trying to make myself go get it, or maybe something else, but I know it'll just end up collecting dust in a day or so. Maybe things will change once NCAA11 releases.
                PS: You guys are great.

                    That's me too.
And I find whenever you're away from something for a long time, it's hard to get back into it.
I like video games, I don't love them. So I don't go out of my way to find time for them.

With Red Dead Redemption it's actually the first game in a long time that I thought about while away from it (I know that sounds pathetic).
But when I was 13-17, I could say that about a few games. Heck, I still remember NHL2K3. I couldn't get that game off my mind. I played it all the time.

But now I have 2 young boys and life is so busy it's harder to make time for myself.
By the time they go to bed, I still want to spend time with my wife. So I'll get in 4-6 hours a week at best. And that's only when I have a game I really want to play.
Outside of the hockey and boxing games, RDR is the first one to do that for me since Gears of War 2. Before that? I'm not sure. I hardly even rent games anymore.

I'm basically in the same boat. I only play a select few games anymore. Sports gaming has taken the biggest hit for me. It's been years since I've put any real time into Madden, NBA2k, NCAA or any sports game outside of soccer. I'll start up a franchise, play 3 games and get sick of it and never play the game again.

Part of it is just being more busy with life, but even when I do have free time to sit around and do nothing, I find myself spending more time watching stuff than playing stuff.

With that said, I have been playing RDR some, and I did play God of War 3 and Mass Effect 2 recently, so I still make time for the great games. I just don't mess with all the rest anymore.

Trust me, I feel it everyday, sometimes I don't game in days. I buy new games, play them one day and sometimes never touch them again, so I ask myself am I over gaming. Plus I have kids and a famliy blah, blah, blah, You know the deal.

In the end even if I'm not gaming much, I will always still hold on to a console for when I get that itch, that itch will never go away,

I haven't outgrown videogames and probably never will but I have become very picky. For crying out loud, I'm selling 'Red Dead Boredom' on Craigslist because it is too slow paced for me. I guess it doesn't hurt that I enjoy Uncharted 2 way too much to put it down.

Like most of you, I have a limited amount of time to play because of the fam.

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I stopped forcing myself to play games when I didn't want to and that's helped a little bit, but I still rarely find myself itching to play PS3. There are times when I've gotten everything I needed to get done completed on a given day and I'll have some free time I'll think about playing PS3 but decide not to. Just don't have the fire anymore. I haven't been addicted to a game since Mario Kart Wii more than two years ago.

Sports games are just bad these days. The last year or so I just try to take them at face value and not demand unrealistic realism or anything like that and they still don't hold my attention. I can enjoy them but not for more than a month or two. I haven't even owned The Show for two months and I'm pretty sure it's going on eBay. I have no urge to play it at all.

NBA2K10 and Live are extremely average with enough problems to keep me from playing them consistently.

Madden 10 was okay, played three years of franchise mode at least but the last two I played where I always controlled the team with the ball. Defense was so boring and I felt like I had no control over anything.

NCAA Football has been straight trash on next gen. The Show is okay but can't hold my attention for whatever reason.

I bought Just Cause 2 after work today. I DL'd the demo last night and played it for about an hour - by far the longest I've ever played a non-sports demo. I had a ton of fun playing it - it was fun and humorous to play. Seems like a very entertaining game. Hopefully this puppy will keep me coming back for more for quite a while.

I am a different gamer now. EA forced me to rarely have any sort of interest in sports games anymore.

I am much more selective on what I play but I am completely devoted to anything with the following in the title:
                                Call of Duty
                                Uncharted
                                Rock Band
                                Mario
                                and now Red Dead.

The feeling I get playing the above games is greater than anything I ever experienced destroying an inept computer or online cheeser in any sports game.
