Need game idea(s) for my dad...

So my dad asked my sisters and I to buy him a used gaming system...

...we ended up getting him a new 360 Arcade.

We already bought him Madden 10, as he and I used to play Madden a lot together when I was younger, but I have honestly no idea what other games to get him.

I want to get him a shooter, but, truthfully, I don't know of any that wouldn't have a steep learning curve. He likes the realistic ones, but I feel like the single player in Modern Warfare 2 isn't enough for him, the SpecOps he probably wouldn't do.

I was thinking about GRAW2, but I never played it so I don't really know anything about it.

Basically...I just need some help on any good, "easy to pick-up and play" kind of FPSs for the 360 that'd be good.

Is he really going to get that into gaming?

He might enjoy some of the simple stuff but I could be completely wrong. Introduce him to 1 vs. 100 on XBL.

If your dad is into semi-realistic slower-paced type shooters, then the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter series is a great place to start. I would recommend for him to play the first GRAW to get accustomed to the series. The reason I state this is because the second GRAW assumes right away that the player has the movement, looking and shooting controls down pat, so the game thrusts the player into doing a lot of other things outside of probing the environment and firing weapons which can possibly confuse him.

He used to be. He and I would play for hours at a time...Madden, Goldeneye, etc.

He just switched jobs so he has a lot more free time now, and his girlfriend is usually in class/doing school work/working at nights so he's trying to find other things to do than drink and watch TV.

Thanks for the advice. I loved the first GRAW but for some reason never played the second one, so I didn't know if you had to or not. Maybe I'll look around and see if I can find the original at a Gamestop.

Flashpoint and Brothers in Arms have big learning curves.

Maybe Call of Juarez Bound in Blood but that's also really short. There's the badly reviewed Civil War games too.

That's cool, LH. You might want to get him a game with a deep story like Bioshock or Mass Effect.

I meant realistic in the...not a big fan of shooting aliens with lasers kinda guy. We tried playing Halo when I first got my original Xbox, but he was more into the rainbox six kinda games.

Come to think of it, I think he and I used to play the Ghost Recon games on the original Xbox, so maybe that's the best plan.

And yeah, Pared. I thought about Bioshock, but I don't know if he'd appreciate it. He's more of a...war...kinda guy when it comes to movies and shows and such.

Honestly, I wish they had an NCIS game. He loves that show...doesn't like CSI as much anymore, or else I'd get him that game as a joke.

I was always a big fan of the early Ghost Recon games on the Xbox. While I still like the series very much, I think the over-the-shoulder third-person camera view in the later GR games and in the GRAW series take away from the extreme realism that the early games had established. Both series should stick with the first-person camera view throughout.

Anway, I would love for UbiSoft to remake those early GR games on a compilation Xbox 360 disk of some sort.

Battlefield Bad Company is a lot of fun. My wife loves that game, and she usually hates shooters.

I would start him off with all the sports games that he actually watches. Then move to Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 & 2, then Bad Company. There are literally around a dozen or more war themed games on 360. Stay away from Raven Squad, Rogue Warrior, Soldier of Fortune. Those games are terrible.

Orange Box is pretty safe bet, especially since the controls are fully-customizable, and everyone should play Portal.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising also comes to mind. That's a "mature" gamer's FPS if any game is.
