Mario Kart 64 was the greatest (non-realistic) racing game ever in the history of ever. Why? Or why not?

I think Mario Kart Wii is the best, then Mario Kart Double Dash on the Gamecube, then the N64 version. I'm hoping ModNation Racers will be just as great as those when it comes out in a few months.

I agree. I love the Wiimote steering wheel controls.

Edit: Oh look, 1000 posts. That was quick. I didn't even realize I was that close. Lol.

Mario Kart 64 is classic, but I really loved the Wii one. Sitting in a room with three other friends all holding steering wheels in mid-air/ attempting to turn your friends wheels so they drive off the track is priceless.

I too am having more fun with Mario Kart Wii, with Double Dash coming in second.

                THIS!

Second prize to Jet Moto 2.

As a side note, my personal opinion is that the following fill-in-the-blank statement is almost always true:

(highly-touted N64 game) is the greatest (game's genre) game of all-time.

Granted, a ton of that is because I hated the N64 controller (easily the worst game console controller I've ever attempted to come to grips with) and the lack of CD-quality music also turned me away from it.

What was the name of that Jet Ski game on N64? It was a game that was made by Nintendo (Not Jet Moto) you jumped through hoops, and there were dolphins all around. That may have been better than my previous selection. I had a lot of fun with the 4 player races.

EDIT: Nevermind, it was called Waverace 64.

Stunt Race FX on the SNES was the best non-sim racing game of all time IMO.

Mario Kart 64 somehow survived the entire summer. That game was played every day, all day at either my house or a friend's house

Not only was racing on the track awesome with three other friends but the battle mode was great too. I loved block fort and whatever that stacked layer level was.

There's something wrong about how the more recent Mario Kart games feel on the Cube and Wii. It's like steering isn't as tight and I've hated them both. When I feel like popping in the old 64 version I always have a blast. Oh well.
