    Napoleon: Total War 02/23/2010

I searched and couldn't believe there wasn't a thread for this.

Well one big new feature will be the debut of Campaign multiplayer. My Firefox won't allow me to post screenshots but it looks like another must purchase in the Total War series for me.

The problem is they said there would be campaign multiplayer for Empire Total War, and they totally didn't deliver there. Last I saw they were beta testing it, or limited release or something.

I feel cheated by Empire Total War, so if I do eventually decide to go with this game, I will wait at least 3-6 months so that the honeymoon with initial impressions is over.

Hopefully this time they put out a great product that works, but I think I will wait for price drop at this point.

I've been playing a Prussian campaign on Empire the last few months and have had a lot of fun. The battle AI is still horrible and I win most battles...so I mostly auto-sim them now. I enjoy the campaign maps and all the things that go along with the game though.

Hopefully Napoleon won't fall flat on it's face like Empire.

My thoughts exactly. Too soon IMO and too much headache with the last TW game makes me very cautious.

The Total War series is the most un-appreciated PC series of all time. Nobody really talks about it...It's all about Modern Warfare 2 (Which sucks)

The way the Total War games are made is far more complex than a first person shooter.

I actually just completed a prestige campaign with Russia. Lost the last one with the Ottoman Empire. I'm actually still playing. I'm trying to take over the whole world.

I have every game in the series and have Napoleon pre-ordered on steam.

Did anyone get this yet? IGN game it rave reviews and I'm really looking forward to replaying The Battle of Austerlitz.

Napoleon is an enjoyable addition to the Total War franchise but it's not as a big a game changer as previous sequels. While Napoleon and his armies were probably every bit as terrifying as Mongols, Vikings or Barbarians, the scope of this sequel is a bit more limited. On the plus side, it allows gamers to experience a historically inspired version of one of history's greatest military careers. On the downside, there's not quite as much variety here. Campaign multiplayer is a welcome addition that neatly sidesteps the sometimes passive AI and works to reduce, if not exactly eliminate, the potential downtime inherent in the format.

I was thinking of waiting until I had played through some more of my games before I got this and then I read IGN's review and immediately preordered it. I don't know why I was kidding myself that I would be able to resist a Total War game. I feel like playing Medieval II in the mean time.

I downloaded it on steam. I played half of a single battle to see what changed. The interface is streamlined and the graphics look better to me. Almost forgot, seems like more units. I need to delve deeper later.

From what I have heard, it still suffers from the same path finding and wonky battle AI issues that Empire saw. The only reason I see getting this is for the multiplayer. As said earlier in the thread, it seems to soon after Empire which didnt deliver on what it promised. Ill probably buy this on sale some day in the future. I was a huge total war fan.

Path finding isn't so bad on Empire...actually the whole battle map seems to work well...at least for my liking.

It's the battles that are horrendous. When the enemy has their solider charge up to my position then start shifting positions like they're dancing, and eventually end up facing the other direction is when I laugh.

I still mow them all down, win the battle, and move on...but I laugh evilly while doing it.

Actually from I've read on TWC forums and such, the battle AI seems much improved. Probably running out tomorrow to buy.
