watched some of the developer walkthrough vids last night, I'm very intrigued by this one, I just don't know when I'll be able to play it. Not a good choice of release date by THQ.

Looks neat - but if it plays anything like STALKER then no way for me. That game was terrible.Comment

Re: Metro 2033
Eurogamer Review - 8
Metro 2033 is a traditional shooter in many ways, and a game that looks to Half-Life 2 or the Call of Duty games for its inspiration, but it's in the details that these games live or die. Fortunately for us the development team, 4A Games, is pretty competent in this regard, and has thrown down plenty of variety along the way.
Combat takes place in all kinds of situations, sometimes with allies and companions at your side, and sometimes solo, in the murky depths of the Metro. There are extensive non-combat sequences too, such as when you visit various stations and other underground bases.Wherever you are it's atmospheric. This is a world that is heaving with apocalyptic detail, but also submerged in its own gaseous horrors. Both on the surface, and in certain areas of the Metro, you'll require a gas mask, which uses filters like a gun uses ammunition. The first time you die because of exposure to gases, you begin to realise that this is a shooter that is as much about survival as about the story, or the combat.
The gas-mask gives a claustrophobic feeling, even when you're outside in bright snowy ruins on the surface. You're stuck behind the cracked and condensation-ringed goggles, and you can hear yourself breathing, with that breath getting steadily more ragged as the filter breaks down.Metro 2033 doesn't always feel polished, and there are those horrible moments that occasionally let linear games down, where you lose the thread of where you're meant to be heading and end up circling round - which is basically just down to bad level design.
Nevertheless Metro 2033 is far busier and far more accomplished than I expected it to be, and it's also one of the best-looking games - at least in a few very special scenes - on the Xbox 360.
Combine these technical achievements with a game that has been carefully written, and lavishly imagined, and you start to get close to a sort of negative image of BioShock. While everything in Rapture is lurid and fantastical, here there is only grit, and blood, and suffocation.
Whether that's what you're looking for, well, that's up to you.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Metro 2033
After reading the reviews I went and did a rental which is rare for me. I'm really looking forward to playing and am aware of its flaws, so I shouldn't get bent out of shape over them. Maybe the game will inspire me to post something else later.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Metro 2033
it does seem like a lot of Eastern European/ Russian developers are good at making atmosphere but not so good with play mechanics as of yet. Just a random thought that popped into my head.Last edited by Eton Rifles; 03-18-2010, 08:14 PM.follow me on twitter: www.twitter.com/eton_riflesComment

Re: Metro 2033
I really recommend this game. Best game i have played this year and i have played the hits uncharted 2, god of war 3, the show, MW2. The gunplay is fantastic if you have your settings tuned properly. The Ai is smart , will flank, and use cover. You can't go gung ho since conservation of ammo is a must to survive. If you do get too aggressive, the game will reward you if you are thorough with the exploration since ammo and goodies will be found in hidden areas.
The immersion factor is through the roof . The environments, the music, the sounds of the game, the story.
But what really caught my surprise is the STEALTH. It's a pretty nice set up. You can turn off lights, u gotta watch out for broken glasses so you dont step on them to make noise, and satisfying one shot kills with a knife throw to the chest. You can choose your battles, you can try to run n gun or use the shadows to evade and kill minimally to get through some stages.
I just played a section where the stealth requires patience, you have to let the situation develop to assess what you need to do, it's really well done IMO. That's why a lot of people say the stealth is broken or too hard, you need to be extremely careful and methodical to pull it off....but when you do, it is very satisfying.
9.5/10 for me.....
the lack of MP will be a turn off for most, but the SP is robust and pretty long. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty and I am just starting chapter 4 out of 7 and it has taken me 6-7 hrs to get there.
Replayibility is good since you can tackle some sections in a different way and there are different paths to the goal. Not only that there is an alternate ending to the story.
awesome game so far.Comment

Re: Metro 2033

I disagree. I think the shooting is lousy...the immersion and atmosphere is fantastic, but the game has too many hits against it for me to recommend a buy - I think it fits in nicely as a perfect rental.
my issues; enemies take too much firepower, sometimes shots dont register, the game teases you with that you'll be able to explore some of these great environments but you actually don't really get to. too much non-human fighting.
I will say this; the game can be downright scary at times - so if you like that, this game will deliver.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Re: Metro 2033
really? i play on hardcore and with military grade ammo, it takes 2 shots to down a human opponent and 2 shots to down a lot of the mutants. with the dirty ammo yea, it will take a bit more, but i guess it was designed that way.
I'm gonna replay the game in normal mode to "increase" the bullet effects....
but man, I am having a great time with this game. there is no way anyone can finish this under 8 hrs on hardcore mode. Hell it's taken me 10 hours just to finish chapter 4. And there are 3 more chapters to go.
Can't wait for the DLC to drop on this one.....Comment
